Do Not Drag COCIN Into Partisan Politics - Clergy Warns

DO NOT DRAG COCIN CHURCH INTO PARTISAN POLITICS ,clergy warns

Clergies in the Church Of Christ In Nations (COCIN) have been warned to resist the temptation of dragging the Church into partisan politics.

This caution came from  the erudite Vice President of the Church, Rev. Dr Obed Dachan in his welcome remarks at the retirement service of Mrs Josephine Goro in Panyam.

Rev Dachan who was visibly irked by the wide spread rumors of the involvement of the Church in partisan politics told the congregation that no Clergy COCIN is allowed to preach partisan politics in the church as that would have the propensity to divide not only members of the church but the body of Christ especially that the congregation belong to various political interests.

Dr Dachan while thanking God for the life of Mrs Josephine Goro to have served for forty nine years in the COCIN Health Unit also used the opportunity to call on politicians to be upright in their politicking and endeavor to serve with humility and the fear of God. He also called on the congregation to keep praying for their leaders and for peace in Plateau State and Nigeria.

Anenih’s death robs Nigeria of a nationalist, political strategist
 —Lalong

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Monday said that the death of a former Minister of Works, Tony Anenih, has robbed Nigeria of a nationalist and consummate political strategist.

The Governor stated this while commiserating with his Edo State counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, the family of the late elder statesman and the entire people of Edo State.

Lalong’s condolence message is contained in a statement issued in Jos on Monday, October 29, 2018 by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, and made available to newsmen.

The statement reads: “I commiserate with the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, the government and people of Edo State and the entire Anenih family over the painful exit of its patriarch, the late Chief Tony Anenih.

“The death of Chief Anenih has indeed robbed Nigeria of a nationalist, consummate political strategist and patriot, and created a vacuum which will be difficult to fill in a long time.

“The deceased had lived a fulfilled live, died at the ripe age of 85, and impacted so much on the Nigerian political scene, all of which combined to earn him the nickname, “Mr FIx It.”

“While it is very sad to lose this courageous nationalist at this moment of our nation’s history we, as believers, we must, however, take solace in the fact that death is inevitable for all mortals,” the statement added.

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Saf Butura Dr. John Gabriel Mallo Makwal has assured the management of Plateau State University, Bokkos that the problem of insecurity within and around the University community will soon be mitigated as the traditional council and leaders of Fulani are working on a peace pact which they will soon sign to end the spate of clashes between the natives and Fulanis.

He gave the assurance when the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Professor Yohana Daniel Izam led the management of the institution on a condolence visit to his palace to condole him over the death of his daughter.

He said in the past the herdsmen used to graze within the University but this has stopped because of the on-going discussions between the Traditional Council and the leaders of the Herdsmen on the need to co-exist peacefully with one another by avoiding actions that could result in conflicts.
According to him, “As you have said earlier that in addition to the Plateau state indigenes, there are other students from other states that are studying in the University and we must do everything possible to safeguard their lives and the University by providing a conducive atmosphere teaching and learning to thrive.”
He further used the occasion to assure the Vice Chancellor that the problems being encountered   with the host community will soon be a thing of the past as the Traditional Council will intervene in the matter with the view to finding lasting solution to the problem and expressed optimism that the hospital that was to be built on the disputed land could even be a teaching hospital that will cater for the health needs of the students, staff and the host community.
Also during the visit a prepared speech of the Saf Butura DR John Gabriel Mallo Makwal was read by the Chairman of Butura Community Development Association and former Vice Chancellor of University of Jos, Professor Heyward  Babale Mafuyai who  appealed to the University to consider youths and sons and daughters of the host communities in admission into the various degree programmes of the University as well employment.
The Saf Butura, believed that doing so will go a long way in reducing crime and hostility among youths and other vices currently bedeviling the area.
He further suggested that the University should establish a skill acquisition and Agricultural extension scheme and ventures in and around the University to provide an opportunity for the teeming youths to acquire skills that would enable them to be self reliant and self employed.
Speaking earlier, Professor Izam condoled the Traditional Ruler and the entire Butura nation over the demise of his daughter and pray God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to solicit for the support and corporation of the Butura Traditional Council and the community to enable him achieve his vision of deepening the culture of academic excellence through robust training and retraining of staff to impart knowledge on the students of the University who are the future leaders of the state and the country.
Professor Izam recalled how the Saf Butura promptly intervened in the security situation around the campus when he called him to help appeal to the relevant authorities to beef up security in the area while the University also facilitated the deployment of armed security operatives around the campus which has improved security in the area.
He further disclosed that Governor Simon Bako Lalong has graciously agreed to assist the University with funds for the fencing of the University to address the problem of land encroachment
The Vice Chancellor however, expressed displeasure over some factors that hindered the commencement the of the Lalong hospital legacy project in the area which said will facilitate the commencement of Faculty of Health Sciences.

SA,s ICT calls on Management of viewpoint Nigeria to call Friday Bako to order

RE: Trouble Looms as Gov. Lalong’s Brother Orders APC Media Team to Return Tablets
VIEWPOINTS FRIDAY BAKO AND DOGO NANZINGS  KINDERGARTEN PROPAGANDA...

In what can be termed as gutter politics of hate and vindictiveness as it is in the tradition of the PDP and their barking dogs reinvented online to keep making unfounded noise for stipends.

A skewed fabricated report was written by Friday Bako in connivance with a certain Dogo Nanzing who until a fortnight ago was a beneficiary of the Lalong administration but jumped ship when his kinsman emerged as PDP flagbearer for Governor in the state.

This misleading and fabricated jargon is aimed at tarnishing the image of the Lalong administration specifically targeting the Special assistants on ICT.

We want to categorically state that there is no iota of truth in the lame report as it was poorly written that a kindergarten pupil can decipher the predictable nature of the false write-up.

As Democrats and seasoned  commentators, we believe in a Healthy democratic space devoid of fake news and character assassination as  we believe in the sanctity and ethics of the Journalism profession to always accredit a source ,objectivity and balanced reportage which the purported report is lacking.

we want to call on the Leadership of VIEWPOINT  in a bid to rescue it's battered image and credibility to either release  the source of the information or call on its biased reporter that works for the PDP as media attack dog to write a written apology or we will do the needful of painting VIEWPOINT in bad light in the court of public opinion where the likes of Friday bako and Dogo Nanzing have intentionally dragged  us to the mud.
We refuse to join the proverbial pigs and get dirty in the mud as we center our campaigns  on issues that will bring peace and economic development to our dear state.
We will not lose focus or be deterred on making sure dividends of democracy gets to the people by the hardworking Lalong administration.
As the window on campaigns open, let us deal on issues and not personality attacks.

Full World Press Text By The Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) Jos Branch On The Security Challenges Bedevilling The Institution...

25th October,2018

TEXT OF A WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES (ASUU), UNIVERSITY JOS BRANCH ON THE SECURITY CHALLENGES BEDEVILLING THE INSTITUTION ON 25TH OCTOBER,2018 HELD AT ASUU SECRETARIAT, UNIVERSITY OF JOS
Gentlemen of the Press
All Protocol
We the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities,(ASUU), are constrained to cry out on behalf of the entire University Community to draw attention to the protracted security challenges facing the institution because it has now become a matter of life and death for both staff and students. Every day when we leave our homes to come and discharge our civic duties, there is no guaranty that we will go back home alive. Therefore, it has become imperative to draw the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the entire world to the plight of staff and students who have suffered and are still suffering greatly from the security challenges bedevilling the institution which seem to have been abandoned to its fate by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
BACKGROUND
We make bold to say that the University of Jos has not known lasting peace since the first major crisis erupted on September 7, 2001 in Plateau State, Nigeria. That particular crisis and subsequent ones have continued to claim the lives and property of staff and students of the University, up to the recent one during which the university lost two students and one member of staff. One student is still missing and one still in the hospital nursing a bullet wound. It is no secret that as a result of the inadequate infrastructure and multi-campus nature operated by the University of Jos, many members of staff and students live off campus, making them vulnerable to attacks while going to or returning from work or school. The situation is compounded by the fact that the institution is surrounded by violent-prone communities, which exposes staff and students and university property to incessant attacks during crises.

Many staff and students run into mobs, which attack them at such periods; and it will be apt to say that staff and students of the university have suffered incalculable damage as a result of the persistent crises. Apart from loss of lives and property, frequent disruptions of academic activities are other negative sides to the crisis situations. Staff and students of the institution have become major targets of hoodlums within and outside the university campus. The recent killing of 11 members of the family of a member of staff of the university when his residence outside the campus was attacked by gunmen, and killing of a staff who was driving a marked university vehicle and whose identity was not be in doubt, buttress the point.
The vulnerability of staff members and students living within the university campuses is worsened by lack of perimeter fencing covering the entire land mass of the university, which makes it easy for intruders to go in and out of the campus at will. A clear example is the constant invasion of the permanent site by cows which are taken into different parts of the campus for grazing, thereby subjecting members of the university community to various inconveniences and anxiety. To say that members of the University Community live in perpetual fear, is to put it mildly.
Below is a chronicle of the most recent losses incured by the university community:
Events of 14th september, 2017
i. On September 14th, 2017 there was a security breach in Jos. Dr (mrs) Nandi Gwanshak was attacked at the gate of the Naraguta campus of the University by some hoodlooms from the immediate community of Angwan-Rogo. Her vehicle, a sharan space wagon, was battered almost beyond repair, and  she barely escaped with her dear life.
ii. At the same spot on that fateful day, Professors Timothy Oyetunde, the current Dean of the school of post graduate studies and Emma-Emma, former Head of Department of Fine and Applied Arts were attacked by the same hoodlooms where they sustained serious injuries. The  Head of Department of Fine & Applied Arts, was admitted in the hospital for many days. The vehicle they were riding, a Toyota 4 Runner, which belonged to Prof Timothy Oyetunde was burnt to ashes right at the front of the gate of the Naraguta campus (where the ASUU secretariat is located) while the university security men watched helplessly because they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of the attackers from the Angwan-Rogo community which is situated directly opposite the gate .
iii. On the same day, a 400 level Law student who was going back home from school was attacked at the Zololo Junction, along Bauchi road and killed.

Events of 27th september, 2018.
i. On the evening of 27th september, 2018 there was a security breach in Jos. As a follow up to this, on 28th september, 2018 the Village hostel of the students of the university came under attack by hoodlums from  Angwan-Rogo community. In the ensuing melee, the students tried to defend themselves in the absence of security men and in the process, one student was shot dead inside the hostel compound, one student is missing, three students have been wounded and recieving treatment currently in the hospital.
ii. Professor Emma-Emma again was also attacked on Friday 28th, September, 2018 on his way home and sustained some matchet cuts. He is currently recieving treatment at home.
iii. Dr Timson Ndupuechi was attacked close to the gate of  the Naraguta campus and his car bashed. He had to work on the car seriously to put it back on shape.
iv. Dr James Bature was also attacked at the same spot and had his wind screen smashed. In both instances, they narrowly escaped being lynched.
v. The ASUU chairperson of the branch, Dr Lazarus .L Maigoro, a former treasurer of the branch, Dr Bolchit Dala and two other comrades, Dr Jimam T. Lar. It was the smart effort of the driver that saved them and had to divert to another route to escape.
vi. Uniformed security men invaded the village students hostel of the University, shot and killed defenceless students rather than protect them from external aggression.
vii. On the 27th of september 2018, eleven (11) members of the family of one of our staff, Mr Kogi Audu a driver, were brutaly murdered while sleeping at night in their house along Rukuba Road.
viii. On the 28th of september, Mr Thomas Dung, the driver of the Head of Department of Science & Technology Education was attacked by hoodlums at Angwan-Rukuba junction, the Hilux vehicle he was driving was also burnt, the driver sustained injuries that led to his death six days later.
ix. Two (2) students so far lost their lives and a third, a 200 Level English Education student who was shot on Monday the 1st of october, 2018 is currently recieving treatment from bullet wounds at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos.
OUR POSITION
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, in view of the foregoing, we are compelled to make the following observations:
i. The three campuses of the university of Jos are in very hostile areas.
ii. The immediate communities of Angwan-Rogo, Angwan-Rimi, Kwanan- Shagari, Gangare, Angwan-Rukuba at the slightest security breach in Jos, unleash mayhem and terror on staff and students and destroy the university property.
iii. The university of Jos administration has made repeated efforts at trying to engage these communities on the need to live in peace with the university community.
iv. These constant attacks on staff and students of the university community have the tendency of degenerating into a major catastrophy someday if not checked.
v. Each time such security breaches occur, academic activities at the university come to a halt for a number of weeks. This has traumatised the university community and has made the academic calender very fluid.
vi. The federal Government seem to have abandoned the university of Jos to the fate of hoodlums.
vii. We commend the efforts of te Gangare community who during the september 28th 2018 crisis, came out enmasse and protected staff, students and university community from attacks by hoodlums. We call on other communities like Angwan-Rogo, Angwan-Rukuba, Angwan-Rimi, Kwanan-Shagari and Sabon-Layi to emmulate the good virtues of the Gangare community.
viii. We equally condemn the killing of a staff member of the university by a mob at Angwan Rukuba Junction during the recent crisis despite the fact that he was in a clearly marked university vehicle.
ix. We also commend the resilience, courage and determination exhibited by staff and students who have remained resolute and have refused to be cowed by these distardly acts against the university community in the face of such security challenges.

OUR DEMANDS
In view of the continued threat posed to the lives and property of students and staff members of the university as a result of the persistent crisis in Plateau State and its cumulative negative effect on the institution’s ability to deliver on its primary mandate of producing quality research and manpower for the country, we hereby make the following demands:
The immediate reclamation of all lands belonging to the University of Jos, which have been encroached upon illegally on different fronts.
Creation of permanent buffer zones around the University to guarantee security of members of the University community.
Strengthening of the internal security apparatus within the institution for improved efficiency during crisis.
Provision of a Special Intervention Fund for erecting perimeter fencing for the entire land mass belonging to the University of Jos.
Provision of a Special Intervention Fund for the construction of more hostels and staff quarters to reduce the number of those living outside the campus.
Creation of alternative routes on campus to aid escape to safety during emergencies.
We appeal to the Federal Government to release immediately, the outstanding take-off grant due to the university since its creation over 40 years ago, to enable herdevelop needed infrastructureto bring her at par with other second generation universities in the country.
The security agencies should as a matter of urgency, identify the killers of the students and staff so as to bring them to justice.
We are calling on the Federal, State Governments and other philantrophic agencies to come to the aid of staff and students who lost property during the crisis in Jos.
We call for an immediate end to the grazing of cattle on the campus as it is distracting to academic activities and a cause of anxiety to members of the university community in view of the recent menace posed by herders in the country.
We also call for a thorough investigation to fish out theuniformedsecurity personnel involved in the killing and maiming of our students during the recent crisis.
We call on the Federal and the state governments to set in motion machinery for implementing the reports of the various investigations into previous crises in the state towards tackling the problem from its roots.

CONCLUSION
Gentlemen of the press, from the chronicle above, you will agree with us that the University of Jos is literally under siege and in need of urgent assistance to address the urgent security challenges facing staff and students. A situation where people live in perpetual fear of crisis or where parents are in constant fear of the safety of their children attending the institution is definitely not the best. We are convinced that the demands listed above would, if considered, go a long way in resolving the security challenges facing our dear institution.
In the absence of persistent lack of political will on the part of the government to stem the crisis in Jos, we call on the international community to mount pressure on governments at all levels in Nigeria to rise up to their responsibilities to end the protracted crises.
Thank you for your attention.

Plateau PDP: Hon Macham Emmanuel Accused Pamson Dagyet Of Plotting Against PDP, As Fighting Continues Secretly Within PDP Supporters.....

25th October 2018

A strong supporter of the PDP and former spokesman of Sen Allimodu Sheriff have accused Hon Pamson Dagyat of Plotting against the party secretly in a statement on social media.macham said Pamson has not demonstrate being an elder statement long before now.

Emmanuel Macham Jp.
PDP Secretariat Jos
Plateau State.
Date:25th,Oct 2018.

*Dear Pamson Dagyat sir*

I carefully went through your write-up title(who is bewitching Plateau PDP)the content exhibited an attempt to further divide our Party the PDP by my personal analysis.

You attempt to polarized and draw sympathy to yourself and harvest from where you did not sow, using HE Sen Jonah Jang name.

The buildup to the Deputy Governor nomination had serious and gross mistake along the way which led to vulgar and serious maneuvers among some stakeholders who were nominated from the Mangu chapter of our party,no doubt about that.

You made mention of a phrase,Too close to Jonah Jang,in your usual manner to gain sympathy for yourself, citing Redemption group, greater together,Algon among many others.

Reliably only one person in the five names submitted from Mangu was rumoured to be eliminated on the basis of (Too close to Jang)
I don't know how you got other person's belonging to the mention groups that were discriminated on the basis of too close to Jonah Jang.

You where an active player in the 2015 election you made mention in your statement,we could have learn from your experience of what transpired then.

My point of correction to you is on the basis of a true party man,
Which you claim to also be.

Why did you personally share your write-up, title who is bewitching our PDP,to major social media groups and media houses outside PDP known platforms.

You personally posted this write-up to your Facebook account which have generated serious argument with supporters of other party and further aggreviate the helling processes ongoing in the party, making us a laughing stock which is seriously uncalled-for.

As a respected stakeholder and a former appointee of the last Government,i expect you to have walk straight to our party Secretariat and table whatsoever grievances  u have, rather than drawing this heavy traffic and negative publicity on social media.

The aim of your write-up is to cause more confusion by my personal assessment.

I seriously advice you to key into our believed of winning the 2019 general elections, with your exposure,I surely believe further mistakes will not happen if your close to the party and offer sincere advises.

I don't mean to join issues with you but to draw your attention that your write-up was seriously uncalled-for as an elder stateman.

Thanks and God bless

Plateau State Would Soon Overcome Its Economic, Security Challenges - Lalong..

25th October 2018

Plateau would soon  overcome its  economic ,security  challenges - Lalong

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong on Thursday said he is confident that Plateau would soon over come the security and economic  challenges of the state .

Lalong made this known while speaking   at  the  Plateau day at the ongoing 2018 Jos  trade fair in Jos.

He said The theme of this year’s Trade Fair, which is: “Sustainable Development of MSMEs in a Challenging Economic Environment,” is indeed apt and timely. This is because it encapsulates the realities that the present business and investment strategies face. Government has deliberately put in place some measures with a view to overcoming these economic challenges by establishing some institutions at the inception of this administration.
These institutions includes ,the Plateau State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency) to facilitate regulation compliance  One-Stop-Shop to provide information to potential investors and the Ease of Doing Business in Plateau State."

The Governor also said "Plateau State is blessed with solid minerals like tin, columbite, silicon, limestone, kaolin, etc, that are all in large quantities. In agriculture, government is collaborating with a private firm, the Agricultural Services and Training Centre (ASTC) which is located in each of the three geopolitical zones of the state. This firm works directly with the farmers by way of providing tractor services, seeds/seedlings, consultancy services etc. This is in a bid to make farming not just interesting but also attractive to, especially the youths. "

'One major lynchpin of the Rescue Administration has been its deliberate decision to tackle the state’s industrialization challenge headlong by engaging in the revamping of hitherto moribund state-owned industries which were abandoned by past administrations for decades. Our efforts in this regard have paid off handsomely."

For instance, the Plateau State Fertilizer Blending Plant, Bokkos has since been resuscitated. For the first time in the history of Plateau State, we now have a functional Fertilizer Plant that is fully operational at optimal capacity. The

Also, the hitherto abandoned state-owned Highland Bottling Company in Barkin Ladi, has since been resuscitated.  The company is now producing table water (GovWater) which has already hit the market. Very soon, with the availability of funds, the firm will  commence the production of malt drinks and other products.

Two other firms, the Jos International Breweries, PLC, and the Jos Ultra Modern Market, have reached advanced stage in our efforts to revive them. Government has also entered into a PPP with a foreign firm and even released a part-payment for the resuscitation of the Jos Ultra Modern Market. Government has also paid part of the money to acquire BARC Farms, a subsidiary of JIB PLC, which was erroneously sold to an investor.
Efforts have also reached an advanced stage for the acquisition of a Permanent Trade Fair ground. We are also opening up satellite markets to boost commercial activities in the state and to also decongest the city.

As a state  we  are determined to tackle the security challenges that  have faced us as a state and how we have been able to address them, thereby, bringing about the relative peace which we now have that has culminated in the enabling environment for us to hold this year’s Trade Fair without any incident of violence.

This is even more significant when we understand that both in the short and long run, no business activities will take place and no investors will put their money in an unsafe environment. Thus, the challenge now is for us to sustain the peace by all means possible in order to bring about sustainable development and achieve the Plateau State of our collective dream.

In the first three years of this administration, you would recall that our security strategies paid off and we experienced relative peace before the en

Buhari Empowers 4000 Plateau Traders with Cash..

October 25, 2018

The Federal Government is to spend about N400 million on 4,000 small-scale entrepreneurs in Plateau State as part of its TradeMoni empowerment initiative.

The gesture, according to its promoters, has been concretized between the Bank of Industry and GDM Group, had been part of government’s efforts to eradicate unemployment and assist those who have businesses but cannot it do it well because of finance.

The money would be paid to beneficiaries through an economic platform called Eyowo.

The Supervisor of GDM Group, Basil Atondo, during its inauguration held at the popular Terminus Market in Jos, explained that through the programme the Federal Government would be empowering  millions of people nationwide.

He said, “As a matter of fact, the Federal Government wants to register and empower as much as 200 million people nationwide. But here in Plateau State, we have registered about 4,000 people on this scheme. The target is N100,000. If you pay simultaneously as it is instructed, at the end of the day, you will have N100,000 to do your business. If you multiply N100,000 by 4,000 target, you will get the amount, which is N400 million.

“We want to see to it that we reach 4,000 people in Plateau state who, after the period of one year, can boast that the Federal Government gave them N100,000 each to boost their business. That is what we want to achieve in Plateau state.

“The Federal Government wants to meet the upcoming traders to assist them with loans from Bank of Industry that will help them boost their business. When you are registered, the Federal Government gives you N10,000 through the BoI of which you are to pay after six months with an interest rate of 0.25 per cent. That will be N250 in addition to the N10,000 that you are initially given. By the time you pay this money, the BoI will give you another loan of N15,000.

“At this time, you are still going to get the same 0.25 per cent interest rate. It does this till it reaches N100,000. When it reaches N100,000, you pay back the money and will be qualified for what is called market money, another scheme that is coming through which the Federal Government wants to give out to traders to help boost their business.”

One of the beneficiaries and Jos-based petty trader, Mrs. Nkiru Success, was overwhelmed with joy after receiving alert for the payment of the money.

She said, “When the promoters of the scheme came to me, they asked me if I am interested in the business loan, and I said yes. So, they registered me by taking my name and the amount they were going to give me at the end. They said I will fill the message on my phone. And alas, I was able to see the text message.

“I started jubilating at home, and started dancing. Even my children were asking me, what was it. I told them I have received a N10,000 free loan. My neighbours and everybody were asking me if it was real. And I said yes, I fact, I want to tell my people that it is real and a reality indeed. I am happy over it.”

Greater Together Rejects James Dalok As Running Mate To Jeremiah Useni...

GREATER TOGETHER NETWORK.

23rd October, 2018.

PRESS STATEMENT.

The Greater Together Network (GTN) congratulates the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on it's successful primaries. In similar vein, GTN also congratulate all those who emerged candidates of the PDP in all elective positions especially Distinguished Senator Jeremiah Useni, the PDP Gubernatorial candidate of Plateau State.

Greater Together Network notes with utmost concern the debate surrounding the choice of running mate to Distinguished Senator Jeremiah Useni and calls for transparency and credibility.

Greater Together Network agrees that the choice of running mate is the prerogative of our Gubernatorial candidate, We nonetheless note that for a party in opposition, there is need for strategic consultations to ensure collective decision by critical stakeholders in the party.

Greater Together Network notes that harmony was the reason why the party zoned it's Gubernatorial ticket to the Southern zone and Deputy Governor slot to central zone. Notably, all gubernatorial aspirants from the central zone had in obedience to the party withdrawn from the contest.

Greater Together Network notes that the Central zone caucus of our party had micro-zoned the Deputy Governor to Mangu LGA and relevant stakeholders of our party in Mangu sat and after an exhaustive and transparent process transmitted the names of  Shadrack Best, Simon Barry, Caleb Mutfwang, Danladi Mwatok, and Benedict Shignugul as it's nominees for the post.

Greater Together Network is surprised that someone, persons or group tempered with the names and a different list was transmitted to  our Gubernatorial candidate. This action is in bad faith because it
rubbished the effort of Mangu PDP who are expected to mobilise party members, sell our candidates and scramble for votes in the general election against other competing options.

Greater Together Network calls on the leadership of our party and Gubernatorial candidate to avert the looming danger ahead and respect the decision of Mangu PDP by selecting the running mate from the five persons whose names were sent.

Greater Together Network assures the PDP of our unalloyed loyalty as we stand on equity, justice,  and fairness. We remain steadfast in leading the charge of our party march towards taking over Little Rayfield for our amiable candidate  Sen. Jerimiah T. Useni to take charge of Plateau affairs..

Plateau PDP Chairmanship Candidate Dumps PDP Over Discrimination...

Plateau PDP Chairmanship Candidate
dumps PDP over Discrimination......

19th October,  2018.

Press Statement

INTENTION TO WITHDRAW FROM THE PDP ON ACCOUNT OF DISCRIMINATION.

I  Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan intends to suspend my membership of the PDP.

My decision is based on unsavory, discriminatory and divisive comments on my person by ranking members of our party, the State leadership and campaign directorate of our Gubernatorial candidate during the selection process of the running mate to Distinguished Senator Jeremiah Useni suggesting that person's living with physical disabilities do not posses the capacity to be elected or appointed to hold public office.

The world has progressed and the contributions of person's living with disabilities to development cannot be quantified, thus the comments are unbecoming  and insensitive of a political party which has equity as  it's moto. It invariably means that beyond lip service,  our leadership still has mundane thoughts about the capacity of person's living with disabilities.

Twice I have aspired for elective positions on the platform of our party. On both occasions, I recieved tremendous and overwhelming support because the people believe I am a credible alternative and have the capacity to bring about good governance. If the electorates could look beyond my disability, then the action of our party is unfortunate and offensive not just to myself but to persons living with disabilities the world over.

Are we saying that people living with disabilities cannot and should not be supported to aspire for elective positions if they possess the mental capacity for such?

I have invested my time, resources, and contributed immensely to garnering goodwill for our party but if it comes to choosing between political party membership and standing for the rights of people living with disabilities, I will choose the latter. If indeed we appreciate the votes of people living with physical disabilities, why then do we hold discriminatory opinions about them,  and do not accord them equal opportunity to aspire and hold positions?

If the United States of America had discriminated against the likes of President Roosevelt and the popular musician Stevie Wonder, America would have been denied of their immense contributions to the development of that country. Here in Nigeria,  people like, Governor Tanko Almakura the Governor of Nassarawa State who suffers from hearing impariment,  our Father and statesmen, Senator VK Dangin and Cobham Asuquo have contributed tremendously to nation building and continue to make us proud despite having physically disability.

My voluntary withdrawal from the PDP is not for the purpose of defecting to any party, rather it is a protest against any form of discrimination of people especially those living with disabilities and is conditional that our party leadership should issue an apology and take steps to avoid such scenario in the future.

Thank you and God bless.

Lalong: Declaration Of State Of Emergency On Education Timely

Lalong: Declaration of state of emergency on education timely

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, has said that the recent declaration of a state of emergency on the nation’s education sector by the Federal Government was long overdue, stressing that it would go a long way in addressing the multifarious challenges facing the sector.

A statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, said Governor Lalong stated this when he appeared on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, live programme, “Good Morning Nigeria,” at the NTA headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, Lalong said that any nation that does not prioritize education was bound to fail, and explained that it was against this backdrop that his administration had, right from the onset, taken the challenge of addressing the decay in the Plateau State education sector headlong by doing everything possible to achieve results.

Lalong also suggested that the Federal Ministry of Education should begin a quarterly assessment of all states of the federation for a proper evaluation of the performance of the states in the sector.

The Governor said the education ministry should also publicize the results of the quarterly assessment as part of the strategies to push for the prioritization of education in Nigeria.

He said beyond physical infrastructural development, governors should also focus on the development of infrastructure by coming up with fresh ideas which would boost the welfare of students and teachers.

The Governor disclosed that the Federal Government had directed all states to declare a state of emergency on education  to ensure adequate planning in the next fiscal year.

Governor Lalong also urged state legislators to be directly involved in the planning of  budgets for speedy passage.

Lalong disclosed that his administration had approved funds for granting aids to missionary private schools in Plateau State.

According to the Governor, such grants have not been paid to some of the schools for thirty years, notwithstanding the fact that the schools have over the years contributed immensely in educational development.

It would be recalled that the National Executive Council, NEC, this week approved the declaration of a state of emergency on the nation’s education sector.
