Lalong Presents First Class Staff Of Office To Plateau Traditional Ruler Atar Aten Of Ganawuri.....

Lalong presents first class staff  of office to Plateau traditional ruler ATar Aten of Ganawuri

 By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong on Wednesday presented a first class staff of office to  a  traditional ruler the Atar Aten  of  Ganawuri   Yakubu Chaimang .

Speaking at the occasion ,Lalong said "This historic occasion offers the opportunity to share in the celebration of the moment and for us to witness the rich cultural exhibition of the Aten Nation. The Aten Nation may look or sound small, but its people are historically and culturally mighty. Most significantly is your high sense of accommodation and tolerance for all shades of humanity, hence your collective sense of unity and purpose. I recall with nostalgia that during the pre-election period of 2015 the people of Ganawuri Chiefdom welcomed and hosted me with great hospitality and ovation. This support was further consolidated in your resounding turn out and massively voted for the APC during the elections.

The Rescue Administration’s core mandate is to give the good people of Plateau a sense of communality through the guarantee of security, peace and good governance, which are key in our Five Policy Thrust. It was on this note that in my Special Broadcast of 14th August 2018, I reiterated Government’s commitment in addressing the issue of creation of Chiefdoms, Districts, village Areas and review of salaries and welfare packages for traditional rulers in the State. Accordingly, Government considered and approved the upgrading and restoration of new chiefdoms in the State that saw the Atar Aten of Ganawuri’s stool upgraded to a 1stClass Status.

Let me reiterate that my interest in the creation of chiefdoms and the recognition of traditional institutions is to give communities in the State a pride of place, based on the uniqueness of their ethnic identities, which is the foundation they build their orientation for community life. This is significant because what they give to the larger society is a reflection of the value of what they have been nurtured with.

I have no doubt in the integrity and commitment of the Atar Aten to lead his other fellow Council members of Chiefs in Unity for a stable and peaceful coexistence with their neighbours. On this note, on behalf of the good people of Plateau State, I heartily congratulate His Royal Highness, Yakubu Chaimang on this well-deserved installation ceremony and presentation of First Class Staff of Office as Atar Aten of Ganawuri Chiefdom.

The Traditional Institution is not old-fashioned, but great custodian of our heritage and values. In modern times it is further expected to promote greater national, social, political, and economic developments. Your Royal Highness, let me affirm in very strong terms that the significance of the exercise of Restoring, Upgrading and Creating new traditional stools and chiefdoms is for development and peaceful co-existence. In the light of this, and as a clarion call to duty, I charge you with the following critical issues related to your patriotic roles not only as traditional ruler but Chairman of your Council:

1)            You are first and foremost Custodian of Culture, History and Moral or Religious Values. These are essential ingredients of building unity and harmony, given our varied dialects and tribes on the Plateau.

2)            You must play great role in mobilization of your subjects, especially the youth in Commerce, Agriculture and community development.

3)            You are to play the role of a strategic and effective mediator in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), particularly on land and boundary issues, in concert with your Council of Elders. You are therefore expected to be proactive in monitoring events and should be able to pre-empt violent attacks, communal crisis, criminal tendencies, amongst other vices.

4)            You must play critical role in community policing, since you know your terrains and virtually  every member of the community. In carrying out your tasks, you are to uphold truth and advise on varied matters as security officers of your domains.

5)            Above all, with the recognition and empowerment accorded you, government will hold you responsible for failure to exhibit duty of care to your subjects and the society in general.

I am aware that these charges can be awesome, but the burden of leadership demands taking and sharing responsibilities. Government on its part will continue to ensure that conducive environment is provided across the State for sustainable service delivery as well as protection of lives and properties.

The Aten Nation cannot be an exception, and it is in recognition of this that Government approved the award of the reconstruction of Tahoss – Ganawuri Road and the spur to Koronfang and Dahreng. We are also funding the drilling of boreholes, water supply and sanitary works within Riyom Local Government and Ganawuri is a beneficiary. The State Government is currently liaising with the Federal Government for the Construction and Maintenance of Federal roads in the State including the Vom – Ganawuri – Manchok road that passes through this Community.  I am also aware of the problems the community is facing with the supply of electricity for over two years, due to lack of connection to the National Grid as your only source of supply is from NESCO. I assure you that as a matter of urgency, the Ministry of Water Resource and Energy will come up with the assessment and cost estimate for connection of Ganawuri to the 33KVA National Grid through Miango.

It is hoped that these new creations, restoration and regrading across the State, which is a continuous process will bring greater confidence and assurance to the citizenry of our collective resolve to remain united and pursue common development goals. Accordingly, I wish to solicit your continuous loyalty and support to enable Government continue serving you better.

On behalf of the Government and good people of Plateau State, I wish to further call on all and sundry to cooperate and support His Royal Highness in his usual bid for purposeful leadership and direction, engender peace and harmony in your domain, while we submit to God our prayers for strength, good health and wisdom that will enable him succeed in the task ahead.

Lalong's Show Of Political Maturity....

LALONG’S SHOW OF POLITICAL MATURITY

By Daniel Nuhu

With the successful hand over of government from the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive congress (APC) in 2015 at the state level, which seem a novel political situation in the state. However transition even within the same party the PDP from 1999 to 2015, 16 years seem to have been colored in the state. It has been every man, new beginning. New public officers change the policies and programs of the state government as they come in accordance with their own peculiar understanding of citation. Rather than reckoning with the interest of the state and natural growth requirement, for this reason, every significant growth has been whittle dawn at each twist of event over the past 16years.

There have not been continuity; always starting afresh each time there’s a new head. Each government in plateau state is good at throwing away the baby with the bathing water. Granting that each party has its own manifesto, there is need for continuity in the area of policy. Though with expected movement, apart from continuing what the past government have started. There is the need to monitor even ongoing projects to ensure the quality of execution is enhanced.

Every public officer come with pet projects while the once begun by the predecessors are discontinued. Re-awarding on-going contracts are largely informed by party patronage which is not in the interest of the state and quality of execution of the respective projects.

A common trend among new government is the tendency to initiate new projects and abandoned those inherited from preceding administration. Many political leaders believe that continuing projects started by previous administrations is an indication that the new lords do not have vision and mission; and therefore lacks original ideas.

But Gov. Simon Bako Lalong chose to approach governance differently, opting to complete and put to use projects initiated by his immediate predecessor and even those abandoned decade ago for the good of the state. Among the major projects initiated by the past administration which where were completed by Gov. Lalong are:
Secretariat Junction Fly over bridge which was initiated by ------- Sen. Dr. Da Jonah David Jang.

The multi billion naira  Goodluck Ebele Jonathan raod Stadium, Popularly known as Zaria road stadium.
Initiated by Col. Lawrence Onoja. Revived by Sen. Dr. DA. Jonah David Jang. Which Lalong promise to complete. Work is in ongoing at the moment.
Highland Bottling Company shut down in 1995. Is now revived  and functional
65 years old Panyam fish farm.  revived  and functional
Bokkos fertilizer blending plant. revived  and functional
Award of roads across the 17 local governments.
Lalong may perhaps be best remembered especially by the university community for the enormous efforts he put in reviving Plateau State University.
Esterblished by Sen. Chief Joshua Chibi Dariye.  E.t.c….
Government  is a continuous process irrespective of who occupies the office.

JT Useni Running Mate Nomination Gets Messy as COCIN Clergy Goes to Court.

22nd November.

The crisis in Plateau PDP  over the nomination of running mate to Senator Jeremiah Useni, the PDP Gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 election keeps getting messier as the day goes by.

The crisis which began over conflicting interest  who will be selected to pair the retired General has taken another dimension with Rev. Tanko Yilmak, a COCIN clergy threatening to go to court to clear his name from an alleged fictitious "Central Zone Church Leaders Prayer Forum".

Rev. Tanko Yilmak through his lawyers, S.T Panwal & Co have written a letter to one Dakas Nathaniel Dakas demanding an apology and retraction of publication implicating Rev. Tanko D. Yilmak.

The letter of demand is squeal to complaints by the plaintiff that his name and signature were fraudulently inserted in a letter sent to Senator Jeremiah Useni nominating Dr. James Dalok as his tuning mate.

The PDP in Plateau is currently in crisis as members of the PDP in Mangu Local Government where Dr Dalok hails from have been in turmoil with the belief that the running mate to Senator Useni is unpopular, emerged through a fraudulent process and does not posses the political clout  needed to defeat Governor Lalong.

Below are copies of the letter.

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Tuesday felicitated with Muslims in the state, the nation and the world, and sued for peace and prayers, as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.

The Governor, in a statement issued on  by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, urged Muslims not to be carried away by only the euphoria of the celebration, but to use it for sober reflection on the significance of the birth of the Holy Prophet.

Governor Lalong also admonished the Muslim faithful to align themselves with the teachings and virtues of the Prophet and seize the opportunity presented by His birthday, to intensify prayers for peace and unity, noting that prayer is the panacea for every challenge.

He also urged Muslims to fervently pray for the successful conduct of the 2019 general elections, so that the will of God will prevail and culminate in the election of credible leaders to run the affairs of the country.

According to the Governor, without prayers, brotherly love, forgiveness, harmony, tolerance and accommodation, religion would be meaninglessness while peace would be elusive in the society, hence the need for all to strive for peaceful coexistence with all men as taught by the Prophet.

Lalong stressed that religion should be the moral compass for all believers in their public and personal lives, and so people should let the teachings of their religions influence their conducts,so as to eliminate challenges such as corruption, kidnappings and killings, among others.

He reassured the people of the state that his administration would continue to take proactive measures to guarantee the security of lives and property, while sustaining the relative peace already attained and consolidating on the achievements so far made in the last three and a half years.

The present administration had it tough in the coming as all forces who concertedly fought against impunity, nepotism, ethnocentricism ended up building a strong wall of a Plateau project, ‘The Lalong/Tyoden Rescue Mission’

It is only logical and meritorious as patriotic citizens to applaud the Lalong/Tyoden Rescue Administration for having worked assiduously to see that Plateau State has been truly rescued from the shackles that had held it captive. Some of the notable achievements of this administration hinged on its five policy thrust includes:

 The restoration and creation of Chiefdoms for the extension of good governance to the grassroots and the promotion of unity.

 The appointment of sons and daughters of Plateau central zone into key positions in government. Today, the zone has the highest number of appointees amongst the 3 zones of the state.

 Since the eruption of violence in the state in 2001, this is the only administration that has made deliberate effort in restoring permanent peace in the State, some of which includes the creation of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, establishment of an early warning signals under the watch of Operation Rainbow, establishment of additional security outfits ( Mobile barracks in Shandam and Gashish, Search and Rescue Airforce Barracks in Kerang), constitution of a Committee on the return of displaced persons from the crisis to their ancestral homes, reform of the Justice law in the state inline with contemporary happenings etc. These efforts has no doubt restored hope to the areas affected by this unfortunate occurrence and a sure way of bringing and sustaining peace in the state.

 The massive employment witnessed in the different ministries, departments and agencies. i.e recruitment of One thousand (1000) teachers under the Teachers Services Commission (TSC), 4600 staff for State Universal Basic education (SUBEB), Over 200 employed Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), 45 in ministry of housing, Reinstatement of about 100 sacked Staff in PRTVC by the last administration and 300 in Lands and Survey amongst many other unmentioned.

 Completion of abandoned projects by the past administration which has direct bearing on the lives of our people. These range from infrastructures to policy continuation. Prominent among these projects are the completion of Plateau State Secretarial Junction flyover, British American - Marraraban Jama’a Road, Tudu Wada/Domkat Bali Road, State Lowcost/ Dong/ Rakafiki Road, Plateau Specialist Hospital By-pass, Anguwan Rogo road, Tina Junction - Dutse uku- St Michael Church etc.

 The construction of twenty two (22) rural roads in all the 17 local government of the State to open up new areas to development as well as ease movements in our communities.

 Timely payment of salaries, pensions, gratitude and offsetting of the backlog of salaries owed by the immediate past administration which has increased the economic power of Civil Seril Servants.

 The diversification of The Plateau economy via agriculture i.e. the purchase of Tractors, revamping of the fertilizer blending plant in partnership with private organization and the increased funding of agricultural related activities.

 The revival of youth activities in the state after being outlawed and disbanded by the past administration over a decade ago. This has led to the conduct of Plateau Youth council elections across every district in Plateau.

 Sustaining cordial relationship amongst all arms and tires of government by upholding democracy and ensuring the independence of each segment of government.

 Attraction of federal projects e.g. the Mangu Water project, Chigong/ Garram road, Sharram Babban Lamba road Abuja/Jos dual carriage, Jos inland dry port, the federal polytechnic Shendam, the air force military base at Kerang/Mangu, police mobile unit at Shendam, Police mobile unit at Gashish District etc.

 Facilitated the Appointment of many Plateau sons and daughters into boards of federal parastatals and agencies.

 The reactivation of some moribund industries in the state and restoration of Jos International Trade fair, Jos carnival etc.

The above elucidated points are but a tip of the ice berg as regards the achievements of this administration but time and space may not allow us to expound more.

Every government has its successes and short comings; we can say that the Plateau Project has justified what Plateau people had clamoured for in 2015. Amidst prejudice and desperation by opposition, our objective and unbiased assessment taking into cognizance the paucity of funds, we can say that the Lalong/Tyoden, Rescue Administration deserves commendation from all well meaning people of Plateau.

Furthermore, we wish to applaud every member of the Plateau Project vis-a-vis the Rescue Mission for the feat attained so far, not only His Excellency Barr. Dr. Simon Bako Lalong nor Prof. Sonni Tyoden but the entirety of his cabinet for, this would not have been a success without any of you.

It is on this note that we call on men of living conscience, Plateau Patriots, lovers of good governance, citizens and dwellers on the Plateau to join us as we voraciously and unequivocally give our formal endorsement of the Lalong-Tyoden ticket in the forth coming gubernatorial elections for the continuation of the Plateau Project/Rescue Mission.

We wish to reiterate our confident in the Captain of the Rescue Ship, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong and his loyal and humble deputy, Prof. Sonni Gwanle Tyoden to Carry-On with the rescue mission on the plateau till 2023. We have witnessed uncommon cordiality and harmonious working relationship among these two leaders which has seen us achieved so much within short period of the life of the Rescue Administration.

As youths of the zone, we wish to assure His Excellency Barr. Simon Lalong and his able Deputy Prof. Sonni Tyoden that we will not only mobilized the Youths but also mobilized Women, Elders, Men and all eligible Voters in Plateau Central Zone to garner not less than 750,000 votes for the actuation of Rescue Mission Administration continuity in office come 2019.

Finally; we humbly appreciate Plateau people for believing in the Plateau project and supporting it thus far, We wish to remind you that we have a final test come 2019, a test between light and darkness, a test between evil and goo, and until we grid our loins our toils for the Plateau Project that the Plateau people had craned for well be blow away our enemies.

Resettlement Of IDPs: COCIN Commends Lalong Calls For Expediency In The Exercise...

Resettlement Of IDPs: COCIN commends Lalong calls for expediency In the exercise

18th November 2018

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

Church of Christ in Nations COCIN has Commended governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state for the steps taken towards resettling the internally displaced persons IDPs saying they hope the exercise will be done with expediency in the state.

They appreciate the various NGO, churches and individuals expecially the living faith church headquarters, TEAR Fund, Bread for the world , Hon. Solomon Dalung, Minister for youth and sports for their support to the IDPs camps in the state.

Our correspondent recalled that following the attack in some villages in Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGC which led to the killing of over 200 people the Simon Lalong led state government had set up a technical committee to work out modalities for the return of IDPs to their original abode.

COCIN in a Communique issued at the end of the 95th general church council in Jos also expressed thanks to God for the successful visit of the the Executive Council to President Muhammadu Buhari which was  a solemn meeting to convey the pains and concerns of the church.

Getting All Involved In Achieving Peace On The Plateau....

Getting all involved in achieving peace on the Plateau

17th November 2018

Efforts of the Plateau State Government under Governor Simon Bako Lalong towards placing the state in the right direction towards achieving sustainable peace is becoming more glaring.

But more encouraging  is the buy-in by the citizenry into the project in ways that would create the environment for growth and development which the state government has made one of its cardinal objectives.

There have been more than a few contributions lately but the recent visit of the COCIN leadership to President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock Villa led by Rev Dr. Dachollom Datiri on Monday, November 5, 2018 deserves a mention.

The visit coming at this time lends credence to the fact that the Lalong administration is not only willing but eager to join hands with the people in the various communities and organizations to look for solutions to the continuos threat to peace in the state while also showing that it is determined to resolve the issues using genuine means including collaborative efforts with individuals and organizations.

By making a case for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, scattered in several locations in the state, the COCIN president has succeeded in reiterating the point the state government as well as other well-spirited individuals and organizations have been making to highlight the urgency of the unfortunate situation the state has found itself.

Instructively, the state government has not undervalued the contributions from these well spirited individuals and organizations but has encouraged such  viewing them as complementary efforts meant to ease the sufferings of its people.

This is even as the state government has been working through a high powered committee to resettle the distressed and heartbroken in their ancestral homes and has done much to reassure them that government is not only concerned about their welfare but will go beyond that to equip them with entrepreneurial and other skills for survival.

While the government has continued to encourage such partnership, it must be stated that the commitment of the state government in meeting the needs of the camps of internally displaced persons has not waned as is evident in the Technical Report of the Committee on Internally Displace Persons which was submitted to the Plateau State Government on November 12, 2018.

The resolve by government to do more  has been exemplified in the regular dialogues between the government and other critical stakeholders supported by the fact that such dialogues between the people and communities have enabled the government take certain measures and actions.
One of the notable areas the state devoted its energies is the establishment of a peace building agency. The agency and other critical stakeholders have been working round the clock proffering solutions in the areas which have brought misunderstanding and had led to crises in some of the local government areas.

Also worthy of note is the genuine efforts engaged in the training of 500 neighbourhood personnel attached to the Operation Rainbow in order to have the agency’s personnel deployed for community policing and intelligence gathering to stem the tide of the restiveness as well as what has become commonly referred to as land grabbing of the ancestral lands of communities that have been affected by the crises.
Steps have also been taken to ensure communities live in peace with one another as can be observed by the fact that the state government took to catering for the welfare of the people. It (state government) believes that no amount can be too much to spend to guarantee the safety of lives and property of its citizens.
It can be recalled that following the wave of insecurity occasioned by the attacks on communities, the state benefited from a ground breaking project for the establishment of 66 Mobile Police Force (MPF) Squadron at Longvel, Shendam Local Government Area by the Inspector General of Police (IGP),, Ibrahim Idris.
The establishment of the Squadron Mobile Unit would by all means increase and improve the existing security infrastructure in the state for the purpose of providing adequate security for human lives and properties.
That novel effort of the establishment of PMF 66 Squadron in Shendam is one of the strategies to ensure that the Nigeria Police is at all times within reach, and able to respond to the challenges of crime confronting the people. That singular initiative is not by accident but a deliberate attempt to fight crime and criminality in communities  as a result of the crises.
The efforts  by the state governor did not go unnoticed as the Inspector General of Police has since appreciated Governor Simon Lalong for donating 51 patrol vehicles to security agencies in the 17 local government areas. The 51 patrol vehicles were donated by the state government in collaboration with the local governments.
Equally, the collaboration would not end  with the police as the Nigerian Air Force has established a special operations command unit, combat search and rescue group in Plateau State as part of efforts in providing rapid response to security challenges in and around the North east and North West regions of the country.
It was the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar who said the current security situation in the country requires the establishment of the new unit that will respond to crisis areas in the northern parts of the state, as well as enhance the civil/military relationship.
To facilitate that initiative the Nigerian Air Force resolved to provide aerial coverage for effective security ground operation across the country, the 205 combat search and rescue group has been established in Kerang, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State in the north central region of Nigeria.
Without sounding political, Governor Simon Bako Lalong at the closing ceremony and finals of the peace football tournament organised by the special task force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in Jos that said, ‘I would not rest until lasting peace is restored in Plateau’.  It is the responsibility of the Plateau state Government not to rest in its quest to bringing lasting peace in the state.
Giving these measures it is only natural that residents of the state should  be responsive to this cause by contributing to the peace process in all communities. Every resident of Plateau must contribute to the peaceful communal life the state was known for. The intensification of vigilance and community participation would stem the tide of the stage some communities in the state have come to be labeled.
The approval granted the state for the establishment of Police Mobile Force Squadron at Gashish, Barkin Ladi LGA, is to promptly respond to distress calls within the axis as several  communities in the area have been embroiled in crises that have claimed several lives.
This principally was the reason Governor  Lalong requested for the establishment of the Mobile Squadron unit to maintain peace in such volatile communities. While presenting the approval letter, DIG Habila Joshak, said ten units which is about six hundred and thirty personnel would be deployed to the new squadron when facilities are available.
The point being made and reiterated by government is that there has been huge government intervention in the area of peace and the welfare of those affected. The government is aware that a lot of government interventions in terms of relief materials have been made available to camps and communities so the only way out is a shared commitment as only that could surmount the challenges confronting the people.

This government has shown responsibility in not allowing the deaths and losses suffered by the people go in vain and the process for sustainable peace can only be consummated through a reciprocal gesture by the citizens.

Gov Lalong And NFF Leaders Receives Awards In Johannesburg...

Governor Lalong and NFF Leaders receive awards
Johannesburg.

17th November 2018

By Thaddeus Yilmen Jos.

After the much-awaited clash between txhe Super Eagles and South Africa's Bafana Bafana, the focus switched to the bright lights of Sandton where the African Football Alliance (AFA) bestowed recognition awards upon Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State who earlier led the Nigerian delegation to the match at the FNB Stadium.

Awards were also handed out to NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and NFF 1st Vice- President, Seyi Akinwunmi.

Governor Lalong received the much-coveted African Football Development Excellence Award for his long-standing and continued support to the beautiful game, not only in his State but also across the whole of Nigeria.

Governor Lalong in his acceptance speech, indicated that the recent success of the Super Eagles is testimony to the fact that if Nigerian people have one common vision, anything is possible both on and off the field of play.

The Governor also recommitted himself and the State to continue focusing and prioritising support programmes for the youth and to create opportunities in all spheres of life and not only football, which in itself could be used as the cornerstone of Nigeria's future development.

The NFF President,Amaju Pinnick, who received the African Football Leadership Award, was in full praise of the success of the Super Eagles reaching another AFCON tournament and insisted that they will not go to Cameroon to make up the numbers, but have already kick-started a highly focused preparation-plan to win the tournament.

Pinnick also commended Governor Lalong for his unselfish commitment to lead the process of football and community development and his vision to create a legacy, which will speak for itself when Nigeria is counted amongst the “best in the world” on all fronts of sports and society at large.

Pinnick also encouraged the AFA to continue finding ways to assist with the organisational development of football stakeholders through sustainable learning interventions, which will ultimately benefit the NFF since its future leaders would have been beneficiaries of such development programmes.

NFF 1st Vice-President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, received the African Football Development Recognition Award for his passion and commitment to grassroots programmes as well as his high-level contribution to the national affairs of Nigerian football at large.

Akinwunmi also lauded the AFA for the initiative to give recognition to those who are making an indelible mark on the development of African football in general and the fact that only a few awards were handed out at the Ceremony, is proof that those who make sacrifices for the benefit of the sport, will ultimately be recognised for their contribution, irrespective whether it is big or small.

AFA Convener, Gerrit Davids stated that the Awards program is in line with the objectives of the Alliance to foster and encourage more people to take up leadership roles within football and to share knowledge on the best practice required to make African football great.

The next AFA Awards Ceremony will take place on 21 March 2019 in Nigeria during the African Football Forum, a day prior to the last AFCON’19 Group Match against the Seychelles.
