INEC Pronouncements Over Delayed National Assembly Election Results In Plateau Vindicates Lalong - Dati

INEC pronouncements over  delayed national assembly election results in Plateau vindicates Lalong  -Dati

Plateau state Government on Thursday said  the pronouncement of the Plateau state office of the Independent National Election Commission on the delayed results for Plateau North Senatorial District and the Jos North/ Bassa Federal Constituency has vindicated the alleged interference of Governor Simon Lalong in the controversy.

Yakubu Dati , the Commissioner
Ministry of Information and communication of the state in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos reads that"The government said people must clearly understand the role of institutions in governance and place their grievances before appropriate institutions.

Dati  explained that  Governor Simon Lalong is the architect of a peaceful Plateau and would not turn round to threaten his good deeds by interfering in a process he is a contestant in and with no control over.

He said politics is a game of numbers and will work with who ever INEC declares winner irrespective of religious, ethnic or political difference in advancing the greater Plateau interest.
He said though he would have loved his party to win, as governor of all ,he respects the wish of the electorate which he describes as the beauty of democracy.
The information and communication commissioner  Dati said Governor Simon Lalong is popular with the people and has indeed provided the enabling environment for peaceful and credible elections in the state.
He told the opposition and peddlers of fake news to focus on what unites the state rather than stoking the embers of hatred and divisive politics.
The Commissioner ask Plateau people to work towards maintaining the peace and successful polls in the nearest future.

APC campaign council lauds Gbong Gwom’s plea,  appeals for peace

28th February, 2019

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

All Progressive Congress  APC Campaign Council  in Plateau state on Thursday said it deeply appreciates the public plea for peace and restraint by the highly revered royal father, His Majesty the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, issued in view of the tension arising over the delay in the announcement of results of the National Assembly elections conducted on the 23rd February 2019.

In a statement issued by Mr. Jonathan Ishaku, the media  publicity and protocol Committee of the  campaign council and made available to newsmen in Jos  reads that "The Council wholly identifies with the clarion call by His Majesty and enjoins every peace-loving resident of the state to always toe the path of peace and orderly conduct and allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to carry out its duties.

As we pointed out in our last press statement, the delay had indeed provided merchants of mischief the opportunity to mobilize miscreants with the purpose of unleashing violence in the state. We are glad that INEC has now finally announced the results for Plateau North Senatorial zone and we also hope that they would also handle the Plateau South case in an expeditious manner.

While the delay lasted, there was no doubt it was being manipulated by invidious political forces who desperately want to truncate the atmosphere of peaceful, fair and free elections which was witnessed at the last polls. They wanted to cause chaos to scare away voters and blackmail the ruling party in the process.

Only last night, a failed assassination attempt was made on a popular artist and APC chieftain, Mr. Joseph Chuwak Dalyop (popularly called DJ Tassa), while driving along with his wife on Domkat Bali Road, Jos. The bullet narrowly missed him but not his wife who is now lying critically ill in an undisclosed hospital with a shot to the head. The attempt was made to incite APC partisans to violence but owing to our preachment for peace we were able to calm frayed nerves.

We however urge the police and other security bodies to step up pro-active measures to avert future occurrences.

Lastly, we wish to extricate the APC in the on-going imbroglio. The party is only a contestant in the elections along with 72 other political parties. The conduct of elections is the responsibility of INEC, the independent umpire whose duty is it to collate and announce result of the ballot.

It is, therefore, disingenuous to bring the name of our party and the Governor of the state into the matter. If the party or the Governor had the electoral leverage being ascribed to them to determine the names of winners and losers, then why do they submit themselves to elections as the others?

We deprecate the frequent linkage of our party and the Executive Governor in the en passé by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), especially the Chairman, Chief Damishi T. Sango. The tone of his press statement dated February 27, 2019 and subsequent action are unbefitting of a leader of a registered political party. We condemn this as a ploy to blackmail us ahead of the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections our party is once again set to sweep.

We think it is also an incitement to violence promoted by the very top echelon of the PDP which has a desperate agenda to win by all means, fair or foul. The security establishment should hold them culpable should there be a total breakdown of peace in the state. There is clearly a link between their reckless rhetoric and the failed assassination attempt on the APC chieftain. This is a new dimension in the annals of Plateau State politics.

Plateau State Government Dispels Insinuations of Gov. Lalong
Involvement in the Inconclusive Election in Plateau North.

28th February, 2019

The attention of the Plateau State government has been drawn to series of discountenance from various quotas linking His Excellency, Rt Hon. Dr. Simon Bako Lalong to affairs that are  solidly those of the Independent National Election Commission, INEC  by some individuals and a political party in the state.

The moves and incitements are orchestrated by certain individuals in order to set the state on the path of crisis after the hard earn peace recorded in the last three and half years of the Rescue Administration.

I called on the peace loving people of Plateau state to be wary of elements who take joy when brothers are set apart by disregarding the false information making the  rounds  in the interest of peace in Plateau State.

The announcement of results is not the duty of Governor Simon Lalong and neither  its collation is his duty.

I hereby called on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to carry out its duty in a free, fair and transparent manner in the interest of peace and just inline with the guidelines for the election as stipulated.

Plateau State must not be triggered into any form of violence; the lives of citizens of our dear state remain Paramount than anything.

Amb Chris Giwa Congratulates President Buhari - Calls on Plateau People to Vote Lalong Again.

28th February,2019

Frontline politician and philanthropist, Amb Chris Giwa has congratulated President Buhari on his re-election.

Below is a press statement signed by him:

With gratitude to God Almighty, I congratulate our President Elect, President Muhammadu Buhari for his victory at the polls which is a reflection of the goodwill and broad based support his leadership has earned from Nigerians.

I commend Rt Hon Simon Lalong, the Governor of Plateau State and the captain of the Rescue Team for having lead the APC to resounding success in Plateau State despite the campaign of calumny and sentiments orchestrated by the opposition.

The bookmakers had written off the APC doing well in Plateau State, yet through collective strategic planning and campaign, we were able to change the tide despite the psychological intimidatation of our supporters by the opposition using religion and insecurity across the State.

We give God the glory for having engaged in a peaceful election in Plateau State and applaud all relevant stakeholders who made this happen which include; the voters, INEC, the Security personnels, our traditional council, community and religious leaders for their orderliness and cooperation.

Beyond election,  we have now elected our President and National legislators who are now our leaders,  I therefore call for maximum support and cooperation so that the Next Level envisaged by our Leader, President Buhari can be achieved for the good of the common man.

As we get set for the second round of election on the 9th of March,2019,  I call on the Plateau people to Vote Lalong Again (VOLA) as he has shown and demonstrated his love and commitment for a better and greater Plateau which can only be guaranteed through a purposeful, energetic,  and visionary driven leadership, something which the opposition today does not have.

Plateau State Police Command wishes to dissociate itself from the 'Vanguard Online' publication of 27th February, 2019 which misquoted the Command as threatening to make the people face full wrath of the law for celebrating the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR at the polls last Saturday.

DSP Tyopev Matthias Terna, the Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Command in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos reads that  Police Plateau State Command CP Isaac Akinmoyede had earlier in the day advised  the  good people of Plateau State who are celebrating the victory of the President to restrict the celebration to their homes.
This advice became  necessary to forestall a situation where hoodlums may hijack the celebration to perpetrate mayhem in the State.
Members of the public are therefore advice  to disregard the Vanguard Online publication which quoted the Command clearly out of context.

Plateau APC Campaign Council Raises Alarm Over Plot To Disrupt Governorship Election...

Plateau APC campaign council  raises alarm over   plot to disrupt Governorship election

27th February, 2019

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

All Progressive Congress campaign council in Plateau state on Wednesday alleged that  some miscreants are all out to foment trouble ahead of gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections slated for March 9, 2019.

The also hailed citizens of the state for coming out to vote for the party in the just concluded Presidential and National assembly elections .

In a statement signed by Mr. Jonathan Ishaku the head of  ,Media, Publicity and Protocol Committee reads that It has come to the notice of the Plateau All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council that some miscreants are all out to foment trouble ahead of gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections slated for March 9, 2019.

We are aware of the ongoing mobilization of these miscreants around the Tudun Wada, Jos North LGA, office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the sole purpose of preventing it from performing its lawful duty of announcing results of the last Saturday National Assembly elections. This has clearly created a security situation in that axis which threatens the peace in the entire city.

The gathering mob is unmistakably under the dictate of an aggrieved political party which has made clear of its intention to illegally constitute itself as a parallel INEC to determine the outcome of the elections and reject results unfavorable to its candidates. In its bid to execute this latter objective, it is already giving a religious coloration to the delay by INEC to announce the winner of the House of Representatives of the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.

It will be recalled that the Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Hussain H. Pai, had earlier told journalists that the Commission had some issues to sort out and promised that the announcement would hopefully be made today but this assurance failed to satisfy the rabble-rousers.

We condemn without mincing word, the unruly behavior which now threaten the peaceful atmosphere under which the elections took place, especially so at this interlude preparatory to another round of elections in less than two weeks’ time. We urge the electorate to remain peaceful and vigilant as mischief-makers fearing another imminent defeat will stop at nothing in causing confusion and disorder.

In the same vein, we also use this opportunity to call on religious leaders to refrain from desecrating their places of worship by turning them into political platforms. Politicians are evenly spread across religious faiths and religious denominations in this state. It is therefore obnoxious that certain religious leaders would pollute worship places by collecting huge amounts of money from political parties or politicians in order to turn the holy places into promoting the political interests of their earthly paymasters, and blasphemously call it the “gospel” or “prophesy.” A clear case of this was the meeting between a ranking member of the National Assembly and 50 church leaders from a denomination in Plateau State to parrot support for a party and demonize another!

Nothing has shamed the Christianity and Islam in our country than the activities of these money-shylocks in our synagogues and mosques. But the Holy Books are both in agreement that power comes from God Almighty alone. True faithful know this and have continued to exercise their civic right to choose their leaders irrespective of what the political pastors or imams say.

The public demands the highest moral code from their religious leadership rather the infliction divisions and segregation upon their followers. The church should restrict itself to its anointed mission of preaching the gospel to all its members without discrimination. This way, it would enjoy the unfettered confidence of the congregation and grow in leaps and bounds instead of having a grumbling and divided followership.

Finally, the Campaign Council salutes the people of the state for its overwhelming support at the last Presidential elections which put pundits to shame. With a 46 percentage score, as against 42% in 2015, we are certain that the next round of polls will witness another APC resounding victory in the race to Little Rayfield and House of Assembly.

We therefore urge our teeming supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, and come out en masse to seal our victory. With President Buhari now firmly on the saddle, by the Grace of God, Plateau State will not only remain in the mainstream of Nigerian politics but also a favoured one; with Federal support for infrastructural development, improved security, payment of salaries and pension as and when due, enhanced social welfare and the promised Abuja-Jos Dual-Carriage Expressway in place, another term for Governor Simon Lalong will transform the state into an Eldorado!

27th February, 2019

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau State Governor, Hon Simon Lalong on Wednesday  said that the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 general elections will usher in a prosperous Nigeria that will be a country of destination in the comity of nations.

Governor Lalong in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen in Jos, made this known while reacting to the declaration of President Buhari by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday as the winner of this year’s presidential election.

The statement reads in part, “Mr President, your taking over the reins of power in 2015 and re-election now is God’s divine intervention to usher in a new and prosperous Nigeria that will be the country of destination for the global community.

“Your Excellency, while I congratulate you on your well-deserved, long expected and God-ordained victory, your re-election is, no doubt, an eloquent statement of the people’s approval of your anti-corruption and anti-insurgency war.

“The next four years will provide the opportunity for you to consolidate on your dogged commitment to turning around the nation’s economy to a global economic giant of sorts.”

Governor Lalong also urged all APC supporters to replicate the massive votes which they gave to the President during the forthcoming March 9,2019 governorship and State Assembly elections nationwide.

This, he said, is the only way to ensure a comprehensive victory for the party at all levels and truly move Nigeria to the next level.

PLSG CALLS FOR CAUTION IN CELEBRATING OUTCOME OF ELECTION RESULTS.

26th February, 2019

The Plateau State Government wants political party supporters and well wishers to  exercise restrain in celebrating the outcome
of the Presidential and  National Assembly Elections.
The note of caution is coming against the backdrop that elections in Nigeria are very emotional issues that could be wildly celebrated.
Plateau State Information and Communication Commissioner Yakubu Dati in message to citizens of the state notes that though it is the right of citizens to celebrate, it should not be done in a manner that threatens the right of other citizens and the peace of the state.
Dati calls on political, religious leaders as well as parents to prevail their followers and wards to, in case of any celebration do so while respecting the rights of others.
He said elections are a brotherly affair and therefore there is no need to disrupt the peace or antagonize others while celebrating.

Beni Lar lied about APC hiring thugs to disrupt forthcoming elections - Hon Nandang Bako

20th February 2019
By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Campaign organization of the All Progressive Congress for the House of Representative for Langtang North /Langtang South Federal Constituency Hon Nandang Bako had debunked rumours that it has hired thugs to disrupt the forthcoming Presidential ,Senatorial and House of Representative elections .

The campaign organization in a statement signed by the candidate himself reads that " The attention of the Campaign Organization of the APC Candidate for the House of Representatives for Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency Hon Nandang Bako has been drawn to the press briefing addressed by our opponent in the opposition People’s Democratic Party, Hon Benny Lar alluding to the mobilization of thugs to disrupt the the forth coming National Assembly/Presidential Elections billed for Saturday 23rd February, 2019 in Lantang North and South LGAs.
This assertion to say the least is as ludicrous as it is mischievous. We as a Campaign Organization and the APC as a Party In this particular Federal Constituency are not only taken aback but are utterly disappointed by the spurious insinuations raised by the Hon Member as to the mobilization of thugs to strangulate the elections.
Nothing can be further away from the truth as we in the APC have been more prepared and have campaigned more vigorously than any other candidate

Celebration Of A Worthy Woman....

CELEBRATION OF A WORTHY WOMAN.

She goes by the name Niagwan Jacqueline but she's fondly called  "Coach Jacky" or "Mama Jacky". She is  head coach of Plateau Peaks Basketball Team,Plateau state, a position she attained after the EKO 2012 National Festival Games where she led the male team and they came 3rd beating Lagos (the host team) in the 3rd place. Evidently, the bronze medal glittered enough that she its reflection attracted the attention of Plateau State Sports Council to announce her as the head coach of Plateau Peaks-a male team that plays in the Nigerian Basketball League.

It is on record that she is the first female (and only female for now) to coach a male team in the history of Nigerian Basketball League. She has been doing a great job ever since as her defensive mechanism and style of play ranked Plateau Peaks the 2nd most defensive team in the 2014 DSTV Premier Basketball League (DSTV terminated its contract with the NBBF and Kwese are the new sponsors of the league).

She was also the assistant coach of the Savannah Conference team at the 2016 All Star weekend of the DSTV Premier Basketball League. This has got to show that even in a man's world,a woman can thrive well too and "what a man can do,a woman can do equally, even better."

However, she's been faced with so many challenges and how she surmounted them, only Coach Jacqueline knows. Poor funding of the team, dilapidated facilities, little or no motivation and constant exit of quality players are the bane of team. Money is needed to keep a solid team and even lure good players from afar. Many great players have emerged from the state but are now stars in other teams beaming with ray-like reflections. Yet she has never given up. Her spartan resilience and stallion dogged nature helps her to stay afloat in the tumultuous storm.

The Plateau Peaks players too need to emulate the fighting spirit of Coach Jacky and start winning so smiles can come to the pretty face of the amazing woman.

Sometime back, she was in CNN discussing her sojourn in Basketball. CNN recognizes her immense contribution and thought it wise to have a one- on-one with her and celebrate her. In an international agency can do that, why not we at home do even more? On this premise, 9ja Hoops wishes to recognizes the hard work of this great lady and celebrate as a sport icon and model to other females. Males too can borrow from her techniques. Determination, resilience, emotion and womanhoond are the distinctive qualities that help to stand her out among her male counterparts. You are appreciated . Happy birthday!!!

Rufus Bature: Breaking The Vicious Circle Of Ethno-Religious Politics In Plateau North Senatorial District...

RUFUS BATURE; BREAKING THE VICIOUS CIRCLE OF ETHNO-RELIGIOUS POLITICS IN PLATEAU NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

18th February, 2019

Since the suspension of embergo on campaigns by INEC, we have seen how candidates aspiring for elective positions went for broke, canvassing for support using all sorts of tactics to sway voters key into what they have to offer and vote for them on election day.

The battle for Plateau North Senatorial District is not exception as it thrusted three major contenders viz; Hon. I.D Gyang of PDP, Hon Sama'ila Mohammed of PRP and Hon. Rufus Bature of APC.

Hon I.D Gyang is the serving House of Representatives member representing B/Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency and was Permanent Secretary Security during the administration of Senator Jonah Jang. Hon Sama'ila Mohammed is a former Chairman of Jos North LGC and was member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency between 2007-2011 and Hon Rufus Bature is the immediate past SSG of Plateau State and was member representing B/Ladi Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly between 1999-2007.

Amongst these three contestants, Hon Rufus Bature is the only candidate that traversed the length and breadth of Northern Plateau Senatorial District to canvass for support from electorates irrespective of their tribe and religion.

While Hon Sama'ila Mohammed restricted his campaigns to Muslim and Hausa/Fulani communities to whip up sentiment as if he is contesting to become Sultan of Nigeria, Hon I.D Gyang deliberately restricted his campaigns to Christian/Berom communities against the run of play as if he is contesting to become CAN President or Gbom Gwom Jos.

All things being equal, the choice before us is between Justice and bigotry, fair play and foul play, unity of purpose and disintegration in tatters, all inclusiveness and divisiveness.

As for me, my immediate family and all voters I can influence, I have chosen to get involved.

I'd vote Hon Rufus D Bature for Senate even if I wasn't a Chieftain and card carrying member of APC in order to set free my conscience from bondage.

Rufus Bature: Breaking The Vicious Circle Of Ethno- Religious Politics In Plateau North Senatorial District....

RUFUS BATURE; BREAKING THE VICIOUS CIRCLE OF ETHNO-RELIGIOUS POLITICS IN PLATEAU NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Plateau APC Campaign Council Express Disappointment Over Postponement Of General Elections

Plateau APC campaign council express disappointment over   postponement of general elections.

17th February, 2019

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau State All Progressive Congress  APC Campaign Council  at the weekend expressed its disappointment over the postponement of the presidential  elections  for one week .

The committee  in a statement  signed by Jonathan Ishaku , the head  Media, Publicity and Protocol  reads that we join our Presidential Candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, to express our utter disappointment with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the late-hour postponement of the February 16, 2019 polls.

We sympathize with millions of fellow citizens, who in the desire to exercise their civic rights, travelled distance only to be so disappointed. We urge that the zeal should not abate but for all of us to again make the necessary sacrifices to participate at the rescheduled dates.

We hold the electoral body squarely responsible for the faux pas given the fact that the Federal Government had not only ensured a conducive environment for a peaceful, free and fair contest but also met its all financial obligation to the organization. The Federal Government couldn’t have gone beyond these provisions without compromising the independence of the electoral commission, a fact acknowledged by other political parties and international poll observers.

The Campaign Council, therefore, finds the statement by the PDP in the state linking the postponement to the ruling APC government outrageous. While such weird and gibberish postulations are expected from the sundry conspiracy theorists, in various stages of inebriation in beer parlors or the safety of anonymity in their bedroom, on the virtual space, it is hardly a position to come from a party which fancies itself as contender for political power. It is doubly ridiculous coming from a party under which the electoral body had postponed General Elections twice in succession; in 2011 the elections were postponed hours after polls had opened for voting and in 2015, with a few weeks to commencement, INEC postponed them by six weeks.

The statement further reads that "We advise the PDP that rather than dissipate energy in cheaply exploiting this national disappointment for propaganda they should look for ways to revamp their lackluster campaign in the state. As everyone in the Plateau State already knows the PDP was set for a devastating defeat before the postponement; this is a rare saving grace for it to step up its game. In the spirit of charity and sportsmanship, we advise it not to waste time again peddling sentiments and pedestrian propaganda which had been roundly rejected by the people of Plateau State.

We appeal to all citizens in the state to take what happened with equanimity and continue to pursue the path of peaceful, free and fair elections as we once again troop to the polls later this week.

In a related development , Plateau Youth activist and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress   Alhaji Nagelu Garba  on Sunday expressed confidence that the postponement of the general elections by one week will not stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the polls.

Nagelu made this know in a statement   made available to newsmen in Jos .

He urged party members not to be discouraged by the shift, saying that victory is sure for President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC candidates in the general elections from Plateau .

The Youth activist   expressed optimism that APC would coast home to victory and the postponement would not stop APC’s victory, but only delay it by a week.

It could be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Saturday shifted the Presidential and National Assembly election to February 23 and the Governorship and State House of Assembly election to March 9 citing logistic challenges.Nagelu  said  that the Party was poised for victory on the new dates announced by the electoral umpire noting that the poll shift would only delay celebration of victory by its members.

“APC members should see the postponement as an opportunity to plan better, re-strategize and work harder to ensure victory for our party on the new dates of February 23 and March 9 announced by INEC,” he said.
