Coronavirus: Plateau Govt Set Regulations to Marriages, Burials; Suspends Anniversaries and Cultural Festivals

Following the global outbreak and threat posed by Coronavirus pandemic, the Plateau State Government in a statement through the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Danladi Abok Atu after a meeting with critical stakeholders (Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, Elders and Medical Experts) in the State on Friday 20th March, 2020 released regulations and restrictions to certain gatherings and Social Events.

The resolutions reached at the session are aimed at preventing possible spread of the dreaded Covid-19 and for the common good of the people.

The following were the resolutions made:

It was resolved that all Public and Private Schools and Tertiary Institutions in the State to be closed with immediate effect.
Worship Centres such as Churches and Mosques must reduce congregation with a spacing of two (2) meters interval and to provide running water, soap and sanitizers at their entrances.
Motor Parks, Hotels, Markets and Super Markets should maintain 2 Meters spacing and provide running water, soap and sanitizers at their entrances.
Marriages and burials should be restricted to family Members and crowd of not more than 50 persons with 2 Meters spacing.
Anniversaries and Cultural Festivals are hereby suspended.
All crowded social gatherings to be avoided, and face mask usage is encouraged.
All Taxis, Buses and Tricycles must have hand sanitizers.

The State Government in the Statement appealed to the people to adhere strictly to the above as it says coronavirus is a serious pandemic and will not be treated with kid gloves.
