The State of Plateau as a platform seeks to promote democracy on the local level by bringing the fore issues concerning the State, and facilitating citizens debate on public issues, through participation in government decision making.

Alleged Deaths Of 4 Youths: 50 Rights, Peace Advocate Groups Flay Allegations Against OPSH.....

October 31,2020

Alleged deaths of 4 youths: 50 rights, peace advocate groups flay allegations against OPSH

*Says allegation desperate falsehood to instigate public against security agencies

*Appeals to public to disregard it

A coalition of 50 human rights and peace advocate groups have decried media reports credited to some people of Gwafan Community in Plateau State accusing soldiers  from Operation Safe Haven,(OPSH) of killing four youths during recent uprising in the state.

The youths were said to have died during the raid on the house of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, located at Lamingo  area of the state.

The mischievous persons had in a media statement,  accused the soldiers of being responsible for the death of the victims, one of whom was identified as Daniel Simon,a 300 level student of Biochemistry, at the University of Jos.

But the human rights and peace advocate groups in a swift reaction, said the allegation against the military taskforce was false just as it alleged that it was deliberately falsehood carried out  to instigate the general public against the security agencies in the state.

To this end, the coalition, in a statement, appealed to the public to discountenance the allegation, saying its findings following interviews and meetings with some eye witnesses in the community exonerated the soldiers.

The statement was signed by Dr Andrew Azi for Initiative For Justice and Equity Africa (INJUEA); Mr Yakubu Bot,for Center for Humanitarian Advocacy (CEHUA); Barr. Rebecca Pam,for Forum of Plateau Mothers (FOPLMO) and Comrade Isaiah Agwon for Conscience Youths Network (COYON).

The coalition which condoled with the families, people and the Government of Plateau State, said it was compelled to speak on the issue to set the records straight, given their active roles in ensuring peace on the Plateau.

The statement read in full:" We wish to express our heartfelt condolence to the families of Daniel Simon, a 300 level biochemistry student of University of Jos and three others, who died some days at the Lamingo Dam during the confusion that occasioned the burning and looting of private and  infrastructures in Plateau State.

"Our hearts go to the families, the Government and people of Plateau State over this ugly development.

"However,we received with rude shock the blatant and concocted lies alleging full complicit of men of Operation Safe Haven by some mischievous people in Gwafan Village in Jos North Local Government of the state as published in the media prominent among which Vanguard Newspaper.

"As human rights and peace building organisations traversing the nook and cranny of the state with a view to ensuring a better society,we are shocked that this people emphatically accused Operation Safe Haven,OPSH, the special military taskforce set up to maintain internal security in Plateau, some parts of Bauchi State and Southern Kaduna area that its personnel killed four youths during the raid on former House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara’s house at Lamingo area of Jos.

"Ordinarily, we would not have joined issues with allegation by the community neither should we have done same with the reporter that displayed her high-level incompetence and professional deficiency because we are not spokespersons to  the Nigeria Military or Operation Safe Haven.

"But as responsible civil society organizations whose thematic area is on peace and security  and also serve as watchdogs  to the society, it will be unfair to allow this daylight lies and unprofessionalism stand.

"It will not only be morally wrong but also spiritually unacceptable to watch people lie against the security forces who performed excellently during the youths restiveness without any human rights violations.

" Even though the report in itself is contradictory and inconsistent, we wish to clearly state that it was bias, malicious and a deliberate attempt to rubbish the good work of the special taskforce which carried out its constitutional mandate for securing lives and properties in the country professionally during the uprising to the delight of most of the law abiding citizens of the state.

"We are compelled to issue this statement because we feel we must stand and speak the truth for the sake of the country.

"For the records , every eye witness we interviewed regarding the role of the security forces during the youth uprising in the state, particularly in Lamingo area, confirmed that the military did not fire one shot either in the air or direct to hoodlums.

"As a matter of fact, our sources confirmed that contrary to the allegation against Operation Safe Haven, they were very friendly and professional during the raid of the former speaker’s residence.

"While it was confirmed that some persons who scampered to different directions for safety on sighting other security personnel even before the arrival of operation safe haven to the scene regrettably fell into a constructed dam at the area, the eyes witnesses also confirmed that there was no sign of bullet wounds or any mark of violent on any of corpse found in the dam.

"From our observation, even as we are not pathologists, one cannot but see that the possible cause of the deaths in the dam could be drowning. Our firm belief in this considering that the bodies of the victims were found without trace of bullet wounds or trace of violence.

"The authorities had planned autopsies on the bodies but the families rejected this professional way of unraveling causes of deaths. We wonder why the families of the deceased refused autopsy. At least, autopsies would have revealed the actual causes of these deaths.

"It is curious that the allegation was only planted in Vanguard, a reputable national daily.  The rush by the author, a resident correspondent on this story leaves much to be desired. We wonder what interest the reporter was serving to have jumped into such a hasty conclusion without proper investigation.

"We advise the public not to always find it convenient to attempt to criminalize our security agencies just because we don’t like their faces.  For most of us, we can attest to the fact that several lives and property were saved as a result of the prompt and professional intervention of the military task force during the crises. We are aware that over 300 looters and hoodlums were arrested in the state and large quantities of looted items recovered. The troops also prevented the hoodlums from gaining access into several other government and private property and facilities. If we can’t commend them we should be fair enough to desist from falsely accusing them.

"While we strongly sympathize with the families of the deceased, we call on the general public to disregard this outright falsehoods aimed and instigating people against the security agencies."

ENDSARS#: N75B Property Destroyed In Plateau - Gov Lalong...

ENDSARS# : N75b property destroyed in Plateau  - Gov Lalong

October 30,2020

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

Plateau state Governor, Simon Lalong, has disclosed that the   State lost over N75 billion worth of  property and infrastructure that were vandalized and  by hoodlums during looting of palliatives last week.

" Preliminary report by a team of experts I constituted has estimated the losses to be at about 75 billion naira for now", the Governor said.

Lalong made the disclosure in an address  at an interactive session with youths in the state .

It could be recalled that crisis broke out in Jos south and North  when hoodlums hijacked the ENDSARS protest and started destroying public and private properties .

The #EndSARS protest which started as a peaceful demonstration by thousands of youths, degenerated into chaos after the protests were hijacked by hoodlums. The distasteful actions of hoodlums and arsonists have seen properties worth billions of naira vandalized, destroyed and razed down.

Lalong  said that this are   are very challenging times for the nation and our State because of recent events which have left us counting our losses.  Lives have been lost, properties destroyed and the voices of the youths clearly and loudly heard across the nation and beyond.

Let me first express my deep commiseration to the families of those who have lost their lives and others who have suffered injuries or lost their properties during the unfortunate recent happenings in our State.

You will recall that the #ENDSARS protests across the country started with the demand for an end to the scrapped Special Anti-Robbery Squad which was accused of carrying out horrific acts against the citizens particularly the youths.

This demand was supported by many Nigerians and accepted by the government which led to the directives by President Muhammadu Buhari to the IGP to immediately disband SARS. This order was carried out without delay.

In addition, Government agreed to implement other demands of the protesters such as the setting up of Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate complaints of police brutality and related extra-judicial killings which will lead to the punishment of culprits and compensation for victims.

Here in Plateau State, I immediately inaugurated the Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate complaints of police brutality and related extra-judicial killings headed by Justice Philomena Lot, a retired judge of the Plateau State High Court on 19th October 2020.

Despite various efforts to meet with the leadership of the #ENDSARS protests here in Plateau State, no one agreed to engage the government as the protesters claimed they had no leaders. This continued despite our appeal for the protests to end and the path of dialogue adopted.

We also warned about the likelihood of hijack of the protests by hoodlums and criminals who will want to hide under the situation to cause havoc. Sadly this was exactly what happened on Tuesday 20th October 2020 when violence erupted which led to the destruction of lives and properties in Jos and Bukuru metropolis.

Government was left with no option than to take the painful decision of imposing a curfew in Jos South and Jos North Local Government Areas in order to stop further loss of lives and properties.

Shortly after relaxing the curfew on 23rd October 2020, some hoodlums broke into the warehouses that housed palliatives delivered to the State on 16th October 2020 by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development which were awaiting distribution and carted them away.

Despite restoring the curfew, the looters took their destruction to higher levels by attacking other public and private facilities and leaving a trail of arson, vandalism and total destruction behind them. Indeed, this is a sad development for our State.

On Tuesday, I went round some of the affected areas together with Members of the National Assembly Caucus from Plateau State and the Minister of Women Affars to assess the level of destruction. What we saw was horrific and despicable.

The level of destruction and carnage is unbelievable and unacceptable. We are still trying to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the total cost of the damage. .

This clearly takes us many years backwards as we do not have the resources to replace the structures vandalised and the items damaged or stolen. We are yet to recover from the devastating economic consequences of COVID-19 which has greatly affected our capacity to provide services.

Indeed, this act of destruction has nothing to do with the initial #ENDSARS protests, but a clear act of criminality and unpatriotic behaviour. As at the last count, we have more than 32 public and private properties that were affected in the looting spree.

My dear youth, as a father and your Governor, I feel your pain. My heart goes out to all our youths for the many challenges they face daily due to lack of opportunities for jobs and better conditions to achieve their dreams.

This is a burden that has accumulated over time which our administration is working hard to address. However, it is always confusing when people demand justice by either violating laws or trampling on the rights of others. That can only breed chaos and anarchy leading to worse consequences than what they sought to address in the first place.

You would agree with me that the enormity of the challenges we face cannot be resolved overnight or with a wave of the hand. It is a process which all of us must collectively work together to achieve.

However, the question that begs for answer is, “can these problems be solved by the kind of destruction and carnage we witnessed recently?” When we destroy the few infrastructures we have, we can never build the better Plateau that we all yearn for.

Since coming into power, my administration has remained committed to pursuing the economic development of the State through youth empowerment and job creation. That is why we continue to prioritize peace and security which encourages private investors to create jobs and boost the economy.

We established PLASMIDA to be the driving force for empowering our youths with skills and knowledge that will enable them create jobs and be self-reliant. As at today, the agency has trained about 40,000 youths in different areas and supported over 15,000 Micro, Small and Medium business start-ups. Today, Plateau State is the face of MSMEs in Nigeria as we have consistently won awards since 2018.

We have also taken advantage of our strategic partnership with the ITF, GIZ and other development partners to create opportunities for our youths in agriculture, entrepreneurship and skills development. This is in addition to providing incentives for young people to go into farming which our state is known for.

We have also done our best to ensure that our youths benefit from all social investment programmes of the Federal Government. Since the N-Power started, 11,364 youths have benefited from Plateau State. Over 2,000 beneficiaries are under the skill acquisition component of N-Power.

Under the conditional cash transfer, out of the over 26,000 households receiving the bimonthly stipend of 10 thousand naira, 24,070 have youths as caregivers and alternate who receive the stipend on behalf of the households. In 90% of the households, there are youths who are beneficiaries.

I have brought the heads of these agencies here for you to also hear from them and ask them questions to get further clarifications during the interactive session.

Let me use this opportunity to correct a number of misconceptions that have been erroneously purveyed particularly through fake news in the social media with the aim of discrediting the government for political and other selfish gains.

First is about the scrapping of SARS. Those spreading fake and malicious news try to create the impression that I am not in support of the disbandment of SARS. That is far from the truth. My support goes even beyond ending SARS, to a deeper reform of the policing architecture in the country.

Those who want to be objective can testify that I am the Governor at the forefront of the advocacy for police reforms that will lead towards the rapid implementation of community policing which I believe will better address our peculiar security challenges as a State and nation.

What I have cautioned against is the blanket condemnation of the entire police due to the atrocities of few bad eggs. There are many among them that perform their duties diligently who must be encouraged. You can see the kind of lawlessness that we witnessed in the last few days because of demoralization of the police.

Secondly, I want to again reiterate that the Plateau State Government did not hoard any palliatives as some political interests are desperately trying to deceive the public. We shall continue to explain that we received the items from the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs just shortly before the #ENDSARS protests began. This delayed the process for distribution. Before then, every palliative we acquired or had received was distributed transparently by the Committee led by the Deputy Governor to vulnerable individuals and groups within the 17 Local Government Areas. Do not be deceived by those who are consumed by desperation for power and can condescend so low to exploit people’s misfortune for political gains. We are a people-centred government that can never inflict pain on our citizens.

Let me appeal to our youths to always put the interest of our State at heart and learn to build, not to destroy. Be very careful of the negative use of the social media which has the capacity for inciting gullible people towards violence, hatred and destruction.

Let us take advantage of the Peace Building Agency which has contributed significantly to arresting the vicious cycle of violence through a wide range of conflict prevention and peace building mechanisms including, systematic dialogue, advocacy, peace education and preventive diplomacy.

I give you our commitment to addressing your challenges in an inclusive, deliberate and rapid manner subject to the resources available to us. We shall continue to engage you in a more robust and proactive manner to close all communication gaps for better results.

In this regard, I have directed the Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development to ensure that the process of electing a new leadership for the Plateau Youth Council commences immediately now that COVID-19 has subsided. I urge you all to cooperate and ensure that you elect credible leaders that will represent your interests.

Above all, take advantage and philosophy of the "not too young to rule" by striving to be mentored, which is the hallmark for patience and leadership by example. We have many role models to learn from.

Shortly before the commencement of this programme, I inaugurated the new Government House Auditorium which we inherited and completed in honour of Her Excellency, Mrs. Victoria Hansatu Gowon, former First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

She remains a shining example for the younger generation because of the support she gave her husband Gen, Yakubu Gowon who at a very young age took the mantle of leadership of Nigeria. If they could carry this responsibility with dignity, passion and sincerity, then today’s youths also have the capacity to do even more than them. Therefore, my appeal to all our youths is to always avoid any action that can threaten our unity and peace. Plateau belongs to all of us and we must build it together. I look forward to hearing from you as you freely and honestly make your submissions during this interaction.

Coordinated Looting & Vandalization Of Public & Private Property In Plateau: An Attempt To Debilitate The Efforts Of The Rescue Admin In Rebuilding The Economy- Rt Hon Abok Ayuba..

October 28,2020

The Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba has described the recent mass coordinated destructions of both public and private property in Jos as an attempt by enemies of the State to bring the efforts of the rescue administration of restoring peace and rebuilding the State's economy (which has already been ruined by series of crises and violence in the past) to a stand still.

The Speaker, stated this when he led a delegation of the National Assembly (Plateau State Caucus) under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Maje (Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Abuja) to Government House in Little Rayfield where they joined Governor Simon Lalong on a  tour to the affected areas.

The Plateau State Caucus of the National Assembly were in Jos today to sympathize with the Government and  people of Plateau State over the large scale destructions of public and private facilities by hoodlums who had hijacked the #ENDSARS protests to perpetrate all kinds of heinous crimes such as looting and vandalism.

The affected areas visited were the Jos International Breweries (JIB), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Former Speaker, Yakubu Dogara's House in Lamingo, Bukuru Warehouse, Plateau State Rural Water Supply & Sanitation Agency (PRUWASSA), and Plateau State Road Maintenance Agency.

I Won't Allow Hoodlums Destroy The Peace In Plateau-Gov Lalong...

I won't allow hoodlums destroy the peace in Plateau - Gov  Lalong

October 27,2020

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

Plateau State Governor and Chairman Northern Governors Forum Barr Simon Lalong, on Tuesday said  that his administration  would not allow criminals  destabilised the peace in the state.

Lalong stated this while he led the National Assembly members from Plateau State on an the spot  assessment of buildings destroyed when hoodlums hijacked the ENDSARS protest in the state .

Our correspondent reports that  areas visited includes the  Jos International Breweries, the vandalised home  of Former Speaker of Reps, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Bukuru Warehouse and NEMA Office Jos where hoodlums destroyed the facilities and also looted valuable items on Saturday and Sunday as result of EndSARS Protest.

He said what happened in the state was pure an act of criminality and not ENDSARS protest.

"As i am talking to you now some persons have been arrested in Niger state with the looted items and properties  from Plateau State and all of those arrested will be prosecuted".

Lalong said he would soon call off the on going curfew imposed in the State .

“We will review  the curfew and go after the criminals. We have identified and made arrest of some of the hoodlums who go about vandalising warehouses, private and government properties, already some properties have been apprehended in Niger State and the culprit must be prosecuted"

“It is not our intention to impose a  curfew, but we have to do it to stop further destruction of lives and properties, it is our responsibility to protect our facilities and we are already moving into investigation to arrest all those who perpetrate this evil act.

He appealed to people of the state to be law abiding at all times .

The Nigerian Youth Quagmire And The Way Out....

October 27,2020

The Voice of Special People which is a disability advocacy group have observed with dismay the recent avoidable ugly happenings in the country with particular reference to Plateau state.

The group is afraid that a protest which had a good intention of restructuring the civil security arrangement became hijacked by hoodlums. These hoodlums started by mesmerising the genuine and honest intentions of the protesters by blocking roads, later chanting political party tunes and finally becoming violent.

The violence led to unfortunate loss of lives and properties of innocent law abiding citizens.

The Voice of Special People watched with consternation how its people have been battling with survival only to wake up to see the youths parking grains which should have been shared to citizens especially their members who are persons with disabilities and embroid with divers challenges especially that of food, but kept away for reasons only known to the authorities concern.

The group thought that citizens were going there to pick up food because they are hungry only to hear that the youths were using cars to park the grains which to us the packing spree seem not prompted by hunger but pure stealing.

That act of stealing never ended in packing grains for keen and sane watchers to call you it hunger, rather office equipments including roofing sheets, Windows and louvres were heard carted away by those youths and/or miscreants.

More so, the looting spree extended to personal properties with the guise of It's politicians houses and/or properties and it was at this point that the group decipher the anarchy and state of brutality that looms.

Our fear is that if this behavior is not nipped quickly in the bud, life may become a survival of the fittest (the strong and mighty) and our community of persons with disabilities and our families will not be able to survive.

It's on this premise that Voice of Special People called on:

1. Government to deal decisively with perpetrators to serve as deterrent to others who may want to take that shameful path.

2. Government should be fair and just to its citizens by giving them what is due them as the holy book says "give to Ceazer what is Ceazer's.

When citizens especially the youths see sincerity from those running government business, majority will have reason to defend its acts. The trust of the people can only be won by judicious and fair utilisation and distribution of government resources by those saddled with such responsibilities.

3. Government should create jobs for the teaming youths that are roaming the streets looking for survival. An idle mind is the devil's workshop.

The embargo placed on the public and civil service in Plateau state since 2007 should be lifted with the necessary alacrity it requires. If the youths are employed, the multiplier effect would be great as their families and dependants shall also benefit from his pay.

4. Youths should be deliberately hired into governance and decision making of the state and the country.

5. All citizens must condemn and caution youths against vandalization of public or private properties in the name of looking for palliatives.

Those interpreting these obnoxious acts as against government and politicians should be guided better else the same act may later extend to those who legitimately made their resources/wealth through hard work and ingenuity and finally it's the strong that will be able to survive as the looting spree may spare no one. But rather snowball into a state of anarchy and 'criminality'.

6. The youths engaging in this shameful acts of carting away public or private properties should please desist forthwith because it can only end in solving their short term needs and jeopardizing their lives which can be terminated in the process and also the bad name which may be attributed to same perpetrators who may be napped and prosecuted.

7. Government should prepare a special package ofemployment and empowerment for *persons with disabilities* and also involve us in all facets of governance and decision making so that our peculiar issues can be presented by us and looked into dispassionately.

The Commission of Inquiry set up to take complaints on SARS activities should also have at least one person with disability as member, please.

9. In addition, we are calling on all citizens especially the youths to live in peace and let love guide our conducts even as we legitimately press/place demands for our rights from government to be given us.

In conclusion, we need to unite regardless of religion, tribe and political party affiliations, we can only be strong and listened to by the elites if we unite.

But if we unfortunately trampled upon when divided along that lines of divisions as above.

Again, persons with disabilities are humans like anyone, many were like you until fate made us what we are today, tomorrow you may join us God forbid. Therefore, stop the segregation and discrimination and make policies and programs that will make life better for these special set of people who became so by sickness, accidents, crisis, old age etc and are facing challenges that can be overcome by the positive push and practical show of love by all members of society.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Long live Plateau state!

God bless the youths!

God lift all the Special People!

Makop Masok Dan Coordinator Voice of Special People and

Musa Yusuf Abdullahi Secretary.

Forum Of Mothers Condemns Looting Of Govt, Private Property In Plateau State* Urges Mother's To Caution Their Wards Against Bad Acts*

Forum of Mothers Condemns Looting of Govt, Private property in Plateau State

*Urges mothers to caution their wards against bad acts

*Hails Operation Safe Haven for arrest of perpetrators, professional discharge of duty

*Appeals to Governor Lalong to summon youth stakeholders meeting across the State

*Tasks Plateau citizens to cooperate with government

Mothers in Plateau State have condemned the looting of private and public warehouses in the state by some people they described as misguided youths, charging parents, especially mothers to caution their children against engaging in actions that are against constituted authorities.

They commended Operation Safe Haven, the special military task force in the state for acting swiftly in successfully arresting many of the looters without recording casualties, tasking the Government to appropriately prosecute the perpetrators to serve as deterrent to others.

The mothers under the aegis of Forum of Plateau Mothers,in a statement, Monday, expressed disappointment over the attitudes of the youths in the state, regretting that their actions were against their good moral upbringing.

In the statement signed by Barr. Mrs Rebecca Pam, Executive Director of the Forum, the Plateau mothers said while they were pleased with the engagement the governor was currently having with the people of the state to restore lasting peace to Plateau, they "urge him to convene an emergency community peace advocacy program targeted  at youths."

" This is the best way genuine and lasting peace can return,"the statement said.
The mothers said in the statement that while,"We supported the #EndSARS protest which was aimed at addressing police brutality and bad governance across the country, we  must state clearly that what is happening now is no longer protest but outright stealing and arson and must be condemned by all."

"We wish to strongly condemn in the strongest term the wanton stealing and destruction of government and private properties in Plateau State by some misguided youths looking for palliatives. This development is sad as it has taken us over ten years  back," the statement said, adding that:"  We are not known for this kind of criminality on the Plateau and we should not start such now."

"Our children are brought up decently,so we wonder where this is coming from. There is no denying the fact that there is hunger in the land but this does not justify the high level of coordinated and sponsored stealing and looting of private warehouses  where people worked hard  to build from the scratch.

This is totally unacceptable to us a mothers," it stressed.

Expressing regret over the action of the looters, the group noted that,"Most  times, business owners in Plateau borrow money from banks and cooperatives societies."

"How does one expect them to pay back? How can we be worst than the government we claimed to be fighting? As mothers, our hearts bleed over these sad developments in the state," adding that:" We call on all Plateau indigenes and residents alike to rise up and defend our land against these daylight criminality, before it's too late. "

According to them,"Those looting and stealing are doing so for their personal gains but the consequence will befall all of us if we don’t act now."

In the statement, the mothers said,"We believe that by the time these deviant youths  are done with government and private properties, they will now face our individual homes",adding:" This is why we must come together to resist these their ugly actions now."

"As a good mother, you ought to caution your child if he brings item that does not belong to him or her home. We should not condone it.

"If we shield them from the law after committing crimes just because they are our children, they will definitely turn against us tomorrow," the statement stressed.

The group commended OPSH for the massive arrest of those involved in the ugly act.

" We want to sincerely and passionately commend the security agencies especially the Operation Safe Haven,a special military task force in the state for the massive arrest of some suspected criminals and exhibits.

"Their action would go along way to deter others from destruction and stealing of public and private properties. This is one of the best steps taken by  security forces.

"We certainly can’t allow criminals to destroy our country and economy when we are still battling with the effect of the global coronavirus pandemic.

"We appeal to the military outfit to ensure that the suspects are prosecuted according to the law of the land.

"The exhibits displayed by the task force is scary. If you said you are hungry, why stealing vehicles tyres, batteries, office computers, television, irrigation machines, Keke Napep and agro chemicals meant for farmers? Are these palliatives too? Obviously, this is purely an act of criminality and must be condemned.

"Operation Safe Haven must be commended for these arrests and their show of professionalism. They have displayed professionalism in the discharge of their duties so far,  we are so happy that for the past six months, human rights abuses, and indiscipline by soldiers have drastically declined. The soldiers are now very professional and discharging their duties effectively," the statement read.

According to the statement," Worthy of commendation also  is the way the men of Operation Safe Haven are deployed strategically to almost every nook and cranny of the state."

" This has largely helped in restoration of law and order in the state,"it said.

It added:"Their timely response to distress calls is second to non and we think it is appropriate to commend the security outfit and other security agencies. We don’t have to wait until they make mistakes for us to blame them."

It read further:"We also wish to commend the vigilante group, Neighborhood watch and community police in the state for their commitment to service despite working on voluntary basis.

"We are appealing to Governor Simon Lalong to rationalize and place them on monthly stipends. This will go along way in taking youths out of the streets thus, reducing  criminality.

" Finally, we are calling on the youths to key into Governor Simon Lalong’s  peace road map that is already yielding positive results before this evil came in.

"We must remember that leadership comes from God and He alone gives it to whoever He chooses. All we need do is pray and support our leaders  to succeed.

"We are also pleased with the engagement the governor is currently having to restore lasting peace to Plateau and urge him to convene an emergency community peace advocacy program targeted  at youths. This is the best way genuine and lasting peace can return.

"While we call on the security agencies to intensify their operation against the looters, we call on all mothers on the Plateau to preach peace and good conduct to their children at home."
