Plans To Smear Northern Governors Forum Over Pantami Uncovered..

Plans to smear Northern Governor's forum over Pantami uncovered

April 30,2021

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Northern States Governor's Forum says it has uncovered a clandestine attempt by a shadow group to engage in a smear campaign against the Forum as well as its Chairman and Governor of Plateau State Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, by printing and circulating posters to the effect that it is supporting the Minister of Communication Technology and Digital Economy Dr. Isa Pantami over some statements he is said to have made in the past.

This was contained in a statement signed by Simon Macham his director of press and public affairs and made available to newsmen in Jos.

The  statement reads that the uncovered plan shows that those behind the propaganda publication are political interests that are bent on dragging the Forum into the controversy by widely circulating the posters on social media and pasting same across the country with the view to tarnishing the image of the body and its members.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Forum wishes to state that it has no intention of being dragged into the matter as the Minister has provided his response to the issue which does not need the validation or denial of the Forum. The Forum is not responsible for his personal or official conduct and utterances at anytime.

Members of the public are therefore advised to beware of the antics of such sponsored mischief makers and should therefore disregard such propaganda posters which only intend to serve the selfish interests of the those behind it.

Plateau Has Employed Over 412 Doctors,Health Workers To Boost Health Capacity- Gov Lalong..

Plateau has employed over 412 Doctors ,health workers to  boost  health capacity - Lalong

April 29,2021

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau state government on Thursday said it has  employed more than 412 Doctors and other Health workers into the state health sector to boost the capacity of the system to respond to the needs of the people in both rural and urban areas.

Lalong made this known while speaking at the 61st Annual General Scientific Conference and Delegates Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association NMA held in Jos .

He said "We shall continue to employ more especially as we complete the new hospitals under construction.

In his words "We are glad that you chose Plateau State as the venue for this years’ annual meeting of this great Association, the NMA. Your choice of Plateau State is certainly not misplaced as our Rescue Administration has done a lot to restore peace and security in the State. Your presence here confirms the confidence that Nigerians and the global community now has in the State."

" I   therefore invite you to enjoy all the boundless hospitality that the Home of Peace and Tourism and its people have to offer in terms of serene weather; scenic beauty; and accommodating people. "

He said that  This year’s Annual General Scientific Conference with the theme: “Nigeria and the Global Health Agenda 2030” is very timely and auspicious because of the growing need for access to quality and affordable healthcare among the citizens. Indeed, your choice of sub-themes also reflects the reality of the times that are defined by Covid-19.

He also said "We are all witnesses to the challenges that have been generated by the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic which have stretched and threatened the nation’s health system as well as other sectors, including the economy. Because of the pandemic, health workers and patients have continued to face enormous risks within the system and regrettably with some fatalities.

That is why my administration has devoted considerable amount of attention and resources to improving the health sector by specifically addressing infrastructure, manpower and access. This we believe remains the only way we can give our people the quality healthcare they require to contribute to the development of the State and the nation at large.

" It is no longer news that we inherited a troubled healthcare sector which has been struggling for a very long time due to neglect, dwindling manpower and low funding. "

As a State, we are doing our best to key into the efforts of the Federal Government to improve healthcare funding and delivery in Nigeria under the leadership of His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari.

Distinguished guests, and members of the medical profession, permit me to highlight some out of the many efforts we have made to revamp our health sector in Plateau State since we came into office. Shortly after assuming office, we approved the Implementation of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for health care workers. This was in addition to the Payment of all outstanding salary arrears for all civil servants, including Doctors and other health workers.

The Governor further said "To beef up the health infrastructure in the State, we prioritized the completion of all inherited health projects that were abandoned for many years. These include the Riyom General Hospital and Trauma Centre; General Hospital Kwall, Kanke LGA; as well as General Hospital, Mabudi in Langtang South LGA. They will all be commissioned soon.

" In addition, we commenced the construction of six new modern General Hospitals across the three geopolitical zone of the State under the Lalong Legacy Projects. This is the game changer for our people because on completion, these will be world standard health facilities that will not only meet the needs of our people, but also lure Nigerians and people from other countries for medical tourism to Plateau State."

Plateau varsity matriculates 1,394 new students

April 29,2021

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau State University, Bokkos on Thursday  matriculated 1,394 new students for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Speaking at the event  in Bokkos, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Yahanna Izam  said  attributed the delay in the conduct of exercise to the advent of Covid-19 and the strike recently embarked upon by the teaching staff of university.

Izam explained that the matriculation ceremony ushers in the new students into the university and urged them abide by the regulations of the institution

The vice chancellor, who congratulated the matriculants, said over 5,000 applicants applied to study various courses in the university.

"The purpose of matriculation ceremony is to welcome into the fold our university, those who have been fortunate, based on the admission guidelines to make the list of successful candidates from the deluge of applicants who sought admission for the academic session.

"My dear students, you must count yourselves privileged to be among the 1,394 students to have made the successful candidates from well over 5,000 applicants.

"While I congratulate you for taking the oath that makes you bonafide students of this university, let me quickly warn that the oath is not a mere ceremony, but comes with enormous responsibilities,"he said.

The vice chancellor further warned the candidates against indiscipline, cultist activities, examination malpractice and other misconduct on campus, insisting that such move attracts outright expulsion.

Izam, who decried the increasing rate of indiscipline among some students of the university, called on the new students to be good ambassadors of their families.

"Of recent, indices of indiscipline among some of our students particularly those residing off campus has given us cause for concern.

"I, therefore, like to urge you to distance yourselves from joining any association whose motives and objectives are in conflict with accepted societal norms and values throughout the duration of your studies.

"This University will not only frowns at, but will penalise any students who indulges in cult activities, examination malpractice and any form of deviant behaviour.

"You must therefore live above board and your conducts most conform to the university's norms and values which will in the long run assess you both in character and learning,"he said

The vice chancellor also called on the new students to be security conscious and urged them to desist from unecessary nightlife which has potentials of exposing them to grace danger.

He advised them to be wary of their environment and report any suspicious movements within their vicinities to security agencies for prompt response.

Izam seized the opportunity to thank the state government for its support to the university and assured that the institution would continue to work hard to justify such gesture.

Lalong made this known while speaking at  the 9th meeting of the National Council on Lands ,housing and urban development in Jos .

He said "We have realised that many people who are tenants are very keen on owning their own houses, hence the preference for Government to facilitate access to lands in prepared layouts with titles."

" To encourage people to key into such initiatives, we have also approved a 50% discount on all land related charges in the State from 2016 to date.

The Governor further said that this development  has seen many people also taking advantage of the opportunity to formalize their land documentation thereby allowing the state  to generate the relevant data that gives  a  better picture of property in the State.

Lalong further said that his adminstration has  continued to upgrade existing infrastructure and providing new ones particularly roads and associated amenities to various urban areas within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis and other major towns of the State.

"This is in addition to the urban renewal plan that we hope will enable us upgrade and replace old infrastructure that sometimes becomes a threat to its inhabitants through building collapses."

He further said that  the creation of Geographic Information Systems in many States,   as reduced bottlenecks are has  promoted  strategic intervention in promoting housing delivery.

"Our approach to an effective and efficient Housing delivery has been anchored on best practices, that are globally acclaimed to provide solutions to all the underlying causes of our under–development which are hinged on processes and practices."

He further said that "For investors willing to acquire land for industries and other businesses, we have established a One-Stop-Investment Centre to cut the red tapes hindering land acquisition."

To ensure that we eliminate risks in land administration and increase investor confidence, we have also signed into law the anti-land grabbing bill that will deter people from sharp practices in land management. Our Multi-door Courthouse for alternative dispute resolution is up and running.

He further said that the Government has equally provided land as its counterpart contribution to major housing projects being undertaken by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Family Homes and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing. "All these are geared towards increasing housing delivery in the State.

"Another area that requires serious attention of this Council is the astronomical growth in urban slums in Nigeria. This is a major challenge that has obstructed planning and increased the difficulty of providing infrastructure and social amenities to the inhabitants of these areas. "

"These developments which spring up rapidly create other problems that affect security, health and safety of the people "

.

Lalong further said that there is the need for development planners and enforcement agencies to step up their game and tame this ugly development that is a major threat to orderly and safe development in our cities and towns. "For us in Plateau State, we are determined to address these challenges as we pursue the greater Jos Master Plan 2008 – 2025."

EFCC Raises Alarm Over Fraudulent Investment Schemes...

EFCC Raises Alarm over Fraudulent Investment Schemes

By Union Nigeria

April 27,2021

“Many have lost, and are still losing, money to Ponzi schemes, forex trading and most recently Bitcoin trading.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is alarmed at the rate Nigerians send petitions to the Commission on fraudulent investments that promise high return with little risks to investors.

This trend indicates that investment scams continue to thrive despite the enforcement and public enlightenment interventions by the Commission and other stakeholders.

In  a statement sent to The Union Nigeria, by Head, Media & Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren,  he said, the direct implication is that hapless citizens are losing their hard-earned money to fraudsters, compounding the nation’s economic woes.

“Many have lost, and are still losing, money to Ponzi schemes, forex trading and most recently Bitcoin trading.”

“Though risk-taking is considered by some as the oxygen that drives investment decisions, the Commission wishes to warn the public against taking unmitigated risk in desperation to earn a windfall.

“Investment in Bitcoin, for instance, is a high risk activity as the terrain is largely unregulated, and prone to fraud.

“The EFCC wishes to state that, while it will continue to investigate and prosecute persons complicit in fraudulent investment schemes, it is incumbent on the investing public to be circumspect in their investment decisions.

“Any investment that promises returns that look too good to be true should be considered a red flag.

“Nigerians are by this notice, warned to be wary of fraudulent schemes and are hereby enjoined to resist the temptation of quick gain that could end in misery.

“Those who ignore this advisory, do so at their own risks.” The statement read.
