BREAKING: Jos  killings - Defend your communities - Plateau house of  assembly  tells citizens

August 27,2021

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau state House of assembly on Friday strongly called on citizens of the state  to practically stand up and defend themselves and their communities, as the conventional security design is no longer guaranteeing our safety as a people.

Addressing newsmen in Jos at the Nigerian Union of Journalist Press center Hon. Dasun Philip Peter, the chairman House Committee on Information said "On behalf of the Plateau State House of Assembly, I wish to sympathize with the Government and People of Plateau State on the barbaric and dastardly killings that have been taking place in different communities of Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Jos North, Jos South, Mangu, Riyom, University of Jos Community and recently that of Yelwa Zangam. The House condemns all these killings in totality, all these killings are unacceptable and condemnable. We commiserate with the families of all those who lost their love ones during these attacks.

We commend the youths on the Plateau for sustained coordinated and organized campaigns against the killings and as well the courage to make it go viral by sending strong messages to the world using the dead bodies of the mayhem on the social media and the streets of Jos; the display of the corpses in the House is a sign that they recognized the authority of the House of Assembly as an institution that can speak for the people. We greatly appreciate that action.

He said that as  an assembly with people at heart, we call on Plateau State citizens to have confidence in us with renewed commitment as we have given two (2) weeks to the Governor to take action on the Resolutions the House has forwarded on security matters and how to restore peace.

The Members further added that "We call on the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, to come up with a statement defending us as a People and to bring back renewed commitment to the cause of Plateau."

"We are still expecting with high hopes, the President to also come up with a statement about the killings in Yelwa Zangam just as he did in the killings of travelers along Rukuba Road and to also indicate a sign of justice or we will see him as being reflexive about the conflict in Plateau."

"As an Assembly committed to the yearnings and aspirations of our people, we deeply appreciate the calls made by Plateau people, both at home and in the Diaspora, for encouragement and tasking us to do the needful in order to save Plateau and its heritage."

We also wish to put on record that we stand with Plateau people in this trying moment and assure them of our genuine commitment to the course of Plateau State.

We also call on the Traditional Rulers to look inward and release the Local Security design to protect Plateau people as well as reinforce the Vigilante, Hunters and local wise men to defend our people. As a sign of commitment to this Urgent need for the People to protect themselves, the Plateau State House of Assembly has directed all Local Government Chairmen to suspend their planned recruitment of Adhoc Staff and instead recruit 200 Vigilante Personnel in each Local Government Area to boost and argument Local Intelligence Gathering

The Security Operatives are called upon to fish out the perpetrators of the mayhem and be punished according to the Law ,he further added .

Plateau PFN Condemns Killings Of 36 Persons In Jos North

Plateau PFN condemns killings of 36 persons in  Jos North

August 27,2021

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria ( P.F.N), Plateau State Chapter on Friday   strongly condemned the the massacre of approximately 36 people on Tuesday night of 24th August, 2021 by criminals elements.

PFN in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos and signed by  Rev. Dr. Steven Dangana, it's Chairman  commiserated with the families of the victims, the entire community and the good people of Plateau State over this unprovoked attack.

The statement further reads that "While we are still grooping with the senseless killings of innocent people in Irigwe land, the killing of commuters and now have woken up to yet another fresh attack in Yelwan Zankam."

" The Fellowship sees the inhumanity of these attacks as shocking and barbaric especially with 12 hours curfew of 6am to 6:00 pm still in place as the attack took place during this period. Indeed, the question of how the assailants got to the village even with a curfew in place needs to be answered by the security personnels covering the axis leading to the village. "

The Fellowship is dumb founded by the silence from both the Federal and State Governments on the recent continuous unabated killings and attacks in Irigwe land and Yelwan - Zangam as insensitive.

"We therefore ask Government as a matter of urgency to speak up and give a clear direction and hope to the good people of Plateau State.

P.F.N has always called on her members, especially the youth and young adults to pursue peace with all. But we are also quick to say that if this unprovoked attacks on members continue, unabated, we will now have no option than to ask our members to also defend themselves as we will not fold our hands and see our members killed without the effective restrain in arrests and prosecution by the Government. We wish to make it clear to authority that violence and injustice only lead to more violence hence the need to act very quickly and swiftly.

The Pentecostal Fellowship also   called on all security Agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property to rise to their responsibility and fish out the perpetrators, collaborators and sponsors no matter their connections or however highly placed they may be.

" We urge the Government to fully compensate families of all the victims and those who lost their properties and means of livelihood. Government should make effort not to engage in selective prosecutions and compensations. "

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (P.F.N.)  also stressed that it  will continue to work hand in hand with the Government and will continue to pray for a Lasting Peace , Unity and  Progress of Plateau State in particular and Nigeria in general.

Afizere,Anaguta And Berom Youth(AFINNABER) Jos North LGA Talks Tough On Plateau Killings...

AFIZERE,ANAGUTA AND BEROM YOUTH (AFIANABER) JOS NORTH LGA TALKS TOUGH ON PLATEAU KILLINGS

PRESS STATEMENT

THE GENOCIDE IN JOS NORTH AND THE URGENT NEED FOR SELF DEFENCE.

BY THE AFIZERE,ANAGUTA AND BEROM YOUTH (AFIANABER) JOS NORTH LGA.

We, the three indigenous Ethnic groups of Jos North LGA, that's the Afizere,Angatu and Berom.wish to categorically rise against the killings, maiming and massacring of innocent of our brothers and sisters in cold blood within Jos and it's environs.

We    frown at this heinous act of killing innocent citizens regardless of their faiths and where they come from.

Within the period of two weeks alone, over one hundred people loss their lives in Jos North LGA ranging from Attacks and counter attacks.

The Recent skirmishes resulted to the killing of innocent people including the students of the University of Jos.

The Major constitutional responsibility of Government at all levels is to Secure the lives and property of her citizens, but with the killings in Dong and Yesterday's attack and killing of over 36 innocent people in Yalwa Zangam. Government  have not been able to secure her citizens.

We want to state it clearly with equivocation that, these attacks, mowing of crops, land grabbing in Jos North,is being perpetrated by the suspected Fulani Bandits who graze their cattles on our crops, forceful seizure of our lands and subsequently launch attacks. Just  Yesterday, over thirty six people were massacred by these marauders in Yalwa Zangam and the brutal way they carried this heinous act,a bridge was destroyed in order to hinder securities access to rescue the community. In this sad development,we are calling on our people to rise and defend themselves within the tenets of law, before we will all perish from the hands of the attackers. All communities should intensify efforts and rijig Community police, hunters and vigilantes. They should be properly equip to carry their duties effectively as well as gather enough intelligence to prevent further unprovoked attacks.

To our greatest consternation, instead of Government to send adequate Security agents to the affected areas,Soldiers and other securities were sent to Angwan Rukuba to molest innocent citizens.

We call on the Federal and Plateau state Government to  beef up Security around Bauchi Junction, University of Jos,TT and T Junction,Kunga,Gidan Mai Jegap and other volatile areas to forestall other occurrence.Secondly, Relief Materials should be send to the victims and Community of Yalwa Zangam. Thirdly,The Victims of the Attacked or their families be compensated, those injured and receiving medical treatments, Government should pay their medical bills. All the burnt houses and the bridge be reconstructed. The perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.

Go Beyond Prayers And Explore Right To Self Defense- Rev Fr Polycarp Lubo...

Go beyond prayers and explore right to self-defense - Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo

August 26,2021

Against the backdrop of increasing security and economic challenges in Nigeria, following renewed attacks in Plateau State, especially Jos North and Bassa LGAs of Plateau State, the Chairman, Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State Chapter, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo has urged Christians and all law abiding citizens of the state to go beyond prayers and explore their rights to self-defence in tackling insecurity in the country.

Speaking to newsmen at the Plateau Specialist Hospital where bodies of victims of last night's attack at Yelwa Zangam village of Jos North LGA were deposited, the clergy disclosed that over 15 bodies were at the morgue and twenty-something others were roasted despite the curfew inplace and nobody is saying anything about it.

According to the CAN Chairman, "the security agencies have been doing their best, the STF has tried so much but it seems the insecurity has overwhelmed them even at the Federal level.

He mentioned that " these occurrences and renewed spate of violence is as a result of the utterances of some Islamic clerics. I even called the GOC and the STF commander, asking them to bring these people to book. They said they were going to retaliate and this is the result we are seeing. I don't know why they feel killing and retaliation is going to solve the problem but it must be made categorically clear that nobody has right over any other person's life and everybody has a right to defend himself".

He went further to disclose that "we are not going to tell any Christian to pick up arms and retaliate or kill anyone but at the same time, every Christian has the right to defend themselves".

He decried the situated whereby some citizens are treated as first class citizens who are above the law while others are treated as if their lives doesn't matter; reiterating that all lives are sacred irrespective of ethic or religious affiliation.

"When some Muslim faithful were killed at Rukuba road, the Federal Government quickly intervened. What is happening in Plateau State now is worse than that incident and so, the Federal Government must act swiftly" he said.

"Many people have been inciting others to pick up arms and go on reprisals, yet the government and security agencies are doing nothing about it. Look at what happened in Mangu and the Fulani man caught in Akwanga".

"My advice to all Christians on the Plateau is to intensify our prayers but not with our eyes closed".

"The Government should also know that we are tired of telling people to be patient and calm. We are tired of calling for restraint and waiting on government to handle the situation; only for the same thing to happen again.

He concluded that "when people are tired and decide to take the laws into their hands, nobody should blame us. Our only message now is that people should defend themselves".

Jos Killings: Plateau NMA Laments Population Of Hospitals Emergency Wards And Mortuaries...

Jos  killings - Plateau  NMA laments population of hospitals emergency wards and mortuaries

August 26,2021

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

Plateau State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association on Thursday said  it

is saddened and disillusioned by the persistent and vicious acts of inhumanity currently ravaging the society and exerting a great toll on the physical and psychological wellbeing of the masses across the state.

This was contained in a statement  jointly signed by Dr. Innocent Emmanuel,

It's Chairman and Dr. Bapiga'an William ,the Secretary and made available to newsmen in Jos .

The body expressed deep concern stressing that the victims of these unwarranted attacks continue to populate  hospitals' emergency wards and mortuaries in the state "

The statement reads that " innocent, armless, accommodating  and committed citizens of Plateau State have continued to live under the perennial unsavoury reality of perpetual terrorism manifesting as kidnappings for ransom, rape, maimings and killings as well as threats of total annihilation.

The group lamented  that " On a daily basis, people are kidnapped from their houses and living with the fear that same will happen the next day elsewhere or in their neighbourhood unabatedly, with huge sums paid as ransom. "

"This worrisome and sad turn of events is severely bleeding the resources of the people and ultimately wrecking the economy of the state in general, resulting in further increase in the sufferings that have characterized the life of ordinary citizens who abinitio have mostly been living below ,at or only slightly above the poverty line."

People face the brazen reality of being attacked, injured and or murdered in cold blood while their homes, farmlands and means of livelihoods are completely destroyed with no end in sight to these hostilities.

In the face of these mindless and grave atrocities, the Nigerian Medical Association on the Plateau wishes to call upon Government and the security agencies to live up to the minimum expectation on them to protect lives and property which is the primary responsibility of the Government as well as the security agencies.

The  statement also reads that " The Nigerian Medical Association calls for calm across the state and entreats citizens to remain law abiding and not to take the laws into their hands, but to only seek all available legal means to forestall any further escalation of the already grotesque and appalling situation."

They  called on religious and political leaders to be mindful and sensitive of their comments especially in public domain which have the propensity to incite members of the public and enflame further, the embers of discord among the peace loving citizens of Plateau State and the country at large.

"Leaders must act as leaders both in  private and public circles."

The body also said that Government must ensure that the equality of all citizens before the law is upheld at all times for all shades of Nigerians. No one must be placed or percieved to be placed above the law.

A society that abhors justice is only opening her doors to anarchy and lawlessness.

Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done for all sorts and shades of criminality because this is the only way that sustainable peace can actually be achieved.

The evil perpetrators of these heinous crimes cannot continue to remain "unknown gunmen" for close to two decades now.

The security agencies should as a matter of urgency, do more to restore the confidence of the exasperated public so that reliable intelligence is made available to them, which they should act swiftly upon ,they added .

We enjoin the security forces and Government to genuinely commit to doing more to prevent further incidences rather than taking reactive approaches on issues that a little more mindfulness, sincerity and commitment could nip in the bud.

The peace, security and prosperity of Plateau and our dear nation must be the guiding watchwords for all leaders irrespective of  personal beliefs and inclination.

The Association  also appreciated  her members who took  the risks with their lives on the line to go to work and attend to victims of the gruesome acts. Jos Killings:

"We call on all our members to continue to answer the call of duty as our noble profession and our Creator demands of us."

The body further  called  on the security agents to collaborate with it  and protect their  members on their different routes to their various places of assignments, especially during the curfew hours.

Terror Herdsmen Now Move Freely With Live Ammunition To Attack Plateau State- Hon Dachung Musa Bagos...

Terror herdsmen now move freely with live ammunitions to attack Plateau State, Rep Dachung Musa  Bagos

August 22,2021

Press Release

The interception and arrest of Likita Abubakar a Fulani man in Akwanga, on Saturday 21st  August, 2021 by the Join Task Force of Police and Federal Road Safety Commission in Nasarawa State while transporting ammunitions to Jos, Plateau State is a clear evidence that  war has been declared by terror herdsmen against the good  people of Plateau.

I strongly want to call on Plateau State Government and the security agencies to rise to their responsibility of protecting lives and properties and ensure the arrest of the remaining six Gangs and friends of Likita Abubakar a Fulani man who was arrested in Akwanga Saturday the 21st of August, 2021 on his way to Jos  with fully loaded arms.

I want to also call on all Plateau State people, especially youth to be united and ensure they are not taken unawares, they should protect their communities by preventing any further attacks.

Section 33 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution provides that persons living in Nigeria, shall have a right to life and no one shall be deprived intentionally, of his life unless in execution of the sentence of a court of criminal office of which he has been found guilty.

This aspect of the constitution has been forgotten, there is killing everywhere. terror herdsmen are above the law. They seems  untouchable and  seemingly protected. If there activities remain unchecked, another civil war may erupt or the taliban Afghanistan experience.

It is very sad that in the past few weeks Plateau Villages have suffered several attacks and hundreds of innocent souls lost, but this didn't attract the necessary required attention,  rather grazing routes are been reviewed instead of approval of encouraging private ranches.

I call on the security agencies in Plateau State to take action like their colleagues in Nasarawa state to arrest the remaining six gangs who were on their way with loaded Arms to Plateau State for another round deadly of attacks

Enough is enough, we will resist any attempt to continuously disrupt peace on the Plateau by forcefully  taken over our ancestral farm lands in what soever form. Government should ensure the return of citizens  that has been chased out of there communities
