Operation SAFE HAVEN has noted an online report in circulation on social media since 28 October 2021 authored by one Mr Femi Owolabi, where he alleged that gunmen asked troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN deployed in an unspecified village in Bassa to vacate the community ahead of planned attacks. It was also alleged that the troops went on to negotiate with the gunmen to avert attacks on the said village.  While OPSH would not want to join issues with this merchant of falsehood, it is however instructive to state that the report is unsubstantiated, laced with falsehood and fictitious imagination of the author. Troops conducting Exercise GOLDEN DAWN have neutralised one of the Biafran National Guard gunmen who attacked troops' location at Amaekpu, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State on Thursday 28 October 2021. The assailants, who were heavily armed and conveyed in several vehicles opened fire on the troops' location, but were met with stiff resistance by the troops. In the encounter, the troops neutralized one gunman, while others abandoned their vehicles and retreated in disarray with gunshot wounds. The troops also recovered   a pump action gun, among others. While the criminals  withdrew, having been overwhelmed, they were promptly intercepted at Eda by troops of Forward Operating Base Ohaozara in Ebonyi State. By Golok Nanmwa , Jos  Governor Simon  Lalong of Plateau State has received  in audience the new Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly who led a delegation to formally inform him about the change of leadership in the House.  Majority leader of the House Hon. Daniel Naanlong told the Governor that the House decided to change its leadership in order to save the institution and democracy from further damage on the account of the misconduct and violation of due process and high handedness of the former Speaker Nuhu Abok Ayuba.  He said after following due process and complying with the laid down procedures, 16 members signed for the removal of Abok who was subsequently impeached by the required 2/3rd of the members including some PDP members who do not want to be mentioned for now.  In his place, the Member representing Pengana Constituency in Bassa LGA, Rt. Ayuba who presided over a plenary with the maze outside the premises of the State Assembly, alongside 13 other members of the House, cutting across party lines upheld a motion raised by the Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly, Philip Dasun and seconded by the Minority Leader, Peter Gyendeng to suspend the six members. Our correspondent reports that the Ministry also began to serve demand notices on property owners to come forward, to register or pay arrears of their ground rents. The Task Force constituted by the Ministry, led by its Commissioner, Hon . Yakubu Dati, as Chairman, visited corporate and non-corporate organizations  to serve Demand Notices on them in the state capital. The Plateau state Governor Simon Bako Lalong was among lawyers from all over the country  partipating at the National Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.  Governor Lalong was among top Government officials who joined host Governor, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State at the opening ceremony of the conference. Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has met the Pro-Chancellor University of Jos, Prof. Attahiru Jega with an assurance that the State Government is working on improved security and transportation for the staff and students of the University .  Prof. Jega, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Council, was on a courtesy visit to Simon Lalong at Govt. House Jos.  He said the students required improved security to  thrive well in their academic activities, saying the school was vulnerable during the recent attacks in the state .  "We need continous support and improvement to ensure peace, stability and security within the University and environs for its growth and development," he said.  Jega said that the university also needs  buses which  would operate within the school, to minimise risk of  insecurity students experience when patronising commercial transportation.
