The State of Plateau as a platform seeks to promote democracy on the local level by bringing the fore issues concerning the State, and facilitating citizens debate on public issues, through participation in government decision making.

Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Abok Ayuba, has urged Nigerians especially the leaders to imbibe the spirit of the nation's founding fathers who did not consider their differences but shared values and collectively craved for a country that would be economically, socially and politically strong and a leading force in the continent.

The Speaker in a special Goodwill message to Nigerians in commemoration of the Nigeria's 61st year independent anniversary as a sovereign nation, said most security challenges witnessing today in the country would have been avoided, if Nigerian citizens see themselves as a people of one indivisibles nation, saying that violence was not a part of the noble and dignifies struggled for the Independence.

The plateau Chief lawmaker who said that the prevailing ethnic, religious and other security strife in the country had watered down it's unity as the people no longer see themselves as one, unlike in the past, the development he said called for sober reflection.

According to Abok, the challenges confronting Nigeria are enormous that requires the need for leaders at all level to chat a new cause by sitting in a round table telling each other the truth in order to get clear cut of meeting the yearning and aspirations of the rural populace.

While admonishing citizens to continue to keep faith in the Nigerian project by supporting the government programmes and policies of President Muhammadu Buhari led APC administration and the deliberate efforts of Lalong's rescue mission on the Plateau aimed at taking the nation's and plateau state to enviable heights which signifies that we are blessed with a purposeful, humane and wisdom packed leadership which are committed to the welfare of its citizens.

The Speaker, who conveyed the heartfelt felicitation to Nigerians on the country 61st independent anniversary on behalf of the leadership and members of the 9th state assembly, assured citizens, that the legislative arms will continue to collaborate with the executive arm for the betterment of entire people of plateau state. He however tasks all and sundry to cooperate with government because according to him government and governed need to be on the same page for progress to manifest.##
